As a self-professed “knitting geek,” she enjoys exploring the technical side of knitting and tinkering with new skills, stitch patterns, knitting patterns, and concepts. She has been teaching professionally in yarn shops, guild events, and knitting shows for more than 10 years. She is the author of The Kids Knitting Notebook and has designs published in Knitter’s Magazine, Knitting Today, and Red Heart, in addition to many self-published patterns.Cindy has been the manager of The Studio Knitting & Needlepoint since 2002. She loves helping students learn to knit or crochet and is very skilled at getting students unstuck. CR12 Tunisian Crochet A cross between knitting and crochet, this fabric looks woven. Let’s play with some stitches while making a business card holder.

SP2 Entrelac Intro French for ‘interlaced,’ entrelac is recognized by its characteristic basketweave appearance. Learn how to make the basic units of left and right rectangles, linking them together in tiers worked back and forth across the fabric. You will learn some of the knitting lingo specific to entrelac such as LR and RR. Included in this class is a pattern for an entrelac scarf that you will begin.

Materials: 100 yards each #4 (worsted-weight) yarn in 2 complementary colors and US 8 or 9 needles.


TT25 Magical Revisible Cables I love when my scarves don’t have a wrong side. You’ll learn to make a cable that looks the same on both sides. It is perfect for scarves and other applications where both sides are showing. You should already be familiar with cables before taking this class.

Materials: Light colored #4 (worsted-weight) yarn, needles to go with yarn, cable needle.


TT23 Charts Can Be Your Friends Don’t let a chart scare you. Many knitters prefer working from charts instead of written directions. Once you get the hang of them, charts can make knitting a lot easier. In this class you will learn the basic symbols, the basic rules for chart reading, and some tricks that make it easy. We’ll practice knitting from a simple chart while making a cozy for your coffee cup (or soda can).

Materials: Light-colored, smooth, #4 (worsted-weight) yarn and US 7 needle.

TT18 Uh, Oh! Fixing Mistakes All knitters make mistakes. It can be frustrating when you can’t fix them yourself, so you rip out and start over numerous times. This class focuses on the most common skills beginners need: picking up dropped stitches, correcting mistakes a few rows back, and understanding the difference between ripping back and un-knitting. These skills will help you relax when an ‘oops’ comes along.

Materials: Practice amount of #4 (worsted-weight) yarn, US 8 or 9 needles, and F, G, or H crochet hook.

TT13 Invisible Joins — Well Nearly Invisible Joining yarn in the middle of the row can be frustrating if the join is noticeable. This class will do the Russian braided, and the knotted joins. Learn which join to do based on the fiber content of your yarn. Your next project will fly because you can’t wait to get to the end of the ball to try your new skills.

Materials: 5 yards each of two colors #4 (worsted-weight) WOOL yarn, 5 yards each of two colors #4 (worsted-weight) COTTON yarn; tapestry needle.


TT6 Knitted Miters Basic knitting skills such as casting on, picking up, and decreasing—combined with color and texture—create endless possibilities. Mitered knitting can become squares, rectangles, diamonds, or strips and is the foundation of some of today’s best designs. You will learn to make a basic square, to join squares as you go, and to build the squares into a project. You will also receive a pattern for a Kindle or iPad cover and begin the project in class.

Materials: 100 yards #5 (chunky-weight) yarn in 2 complementary colors and 2 US 9 or 10 needles.

TT1 Short Rows Short rows can create curves and shapes in your knitted fabric. They are used for heels of socks, bust darts, and shoulder shaping. You will learn basic short rows in both garter and stockinette stitch, wrap and turn, and ‘hiding’ the wraps to make them virtually invisible. Included in this class is a pattern for a Curly Q Scarf that we will begin.

TT8 Knitting in Both Directions Knitting in both directions allows the knitter to always be looking at the right side, even if you are knitting flat. The work is never turned, and the knitter cleverly works both knit and purl stitches from the same side. This saves time when working on a very small number of stitches as for bobbles or entrelac, and it saves effort when working on a very large number of stitches. Your instructor will teach the basics of working knit and purl stitches from the right side of the work. There is time for practice and a discussion of how to use this technique in your every-day knitting.

Materials: Any yarn and needles for sampling.


TT2 Continental Knitting Continental knitting involves tensioning the yarn in the hand holding the unworked stitches (for most people this is the left hand) and using the other needle to pick stitches through in a quick and efficient manner. It is a great technique to have in your knitting repetoire. It can solve a multitude of knitting problems or just be a good companion to the way you already knit. Your instructor will teach the basics of tensioning the yarn and picking the stitches rather than throwing. We will learn the knit and purl stitches and have time to practice and discuss how to transition to this useful method of knitting.

Materials: Any yarn and appropriate needles for sampling.


CC4 Working with Leftovers and Random Yarns—Knit or Crochet! Play with Kellie’s stash and discover how to combine leftovers in appealing ways. Learn basics of color behavior and how to trust your eye. We will create balls of yarn to experiment with and create a swatch with several stitch patterns.

Materials: Size 7 or 8 needles or G or H crochet hook. Prerequisites: Must know the basics of your craft. This is not a learn-to knit or crochet class.


TT14 Hand Dyed Savvy for Knits Learn the basics of understanding hand-dyed yarns and how to get the most out of then. We will start on a cup cozy that will demonstrate techniques for blending colors, avoiding pooling, and making those gorgeous yarns look as good in a project as they do in a skein.

Materials: Skein of #4 (worsted-weight) hand-dyed yarn, wound and ready to knit with at the start of class, needles appropriate for that yarn, 5 safety pins or locking stitch markers.

A proud knitting geek, she loves to teach the principles and practices that are the foundation to every knitting technique and that allow any knitter to become confident enough to try anything they want. PP9 Almost Instant Necklace Scarf Make some chains, cords, twists, or braids. Add beads. Put it all together into a unique piece that bridges the gap between scarf and jewelry. Kellie gets more compliments on these simple pieces than anything else she wears at STITCHES! For knitters or crocheters.

Materials: 20-30 yards of any yarn or harmonious combination of yarn, needles or hooks appropriate to yarn, large-holed beads similar to ‘Pandora-style’ bracelet collectible beads.


CC2 Double Knit in Color Double knitting in color creates a two-sided, double-thick fabric with an image on one side and the exact negative of the image on the other side. In class, we will learn the basic steps and get started on a coaster-sized sample with a simple motif. This will require concentration and experience in reading patterns and instructions comfortably.

Materials: 50 yards of smooth, plain #4 (worsted-weight) yarn in two STRONGLY contrasting solid colors—wool or wool-blend preferred and US 7 needle.

TT31 Another Moebius Cast-on Always wondered about Moebius knitting? It’s a fun way to make a tube with a permanent twist. Moebius make interesting infinity scarves, cowls, and more. Here is your chance to try it out! Learn how to turn a regular long-tail cast-on into a 2-sided Moebius cast-on. From there, the possibilities are endless. All you need is a stitch pattern that looks good on both sides (a list will be provided in class), and you’ll be ready to try your very own Moebius.

Materials: approx 60 yards #6 (Super bulky-weight) yarn; 40-inch circular needle, measured tip to tip, US 11 or 13. Must know how to do a long-tail cast-on.

CR13 Entrelac Crochet Entrelac crochet is a way of doing Tunisian crochet so you end up with little blocks that form a complete row. This is the crocheter’s version of Entrelac knitting. It can usually be done with a regular crochet hook and any size yarn. You will learn this stitch technique while making a small mat/coaster.

Materials: #4 (worsted-weight) yarn in two colors, 1 oz. each; size G crochet hook; scissors; tapestry needle.


CR10 Crocodile Stitch Crochet This mystery stitch has been a buzz word in the crochet world the last couple of years. Come and learn this stitch and go home with a free neck warmer pattern.

Materials: 4 oz. one color of #4 (worsted-weight) yarn, tapestry needle, scissors, and H crochet hook.


CC8 Mosaic Knitting Learn to knit with color without the fuss of having to use bobbins or carry more than one color throughout the row. You can create some beautiful patterns using Mosaic Knitting, both in garter and stockinette stitch. In this class we will knit a cuff for take-out coffee cups. Must be able to knit and purl. Materials: 1 oz. each of two, high-contrast colors of #4 (worsted-weight) yarn, US 7 needles, scissors, and tapestry needle for seaming.

FF3 Simple Seaming Seaming is one of those basic skills, just beyond the knitting fundamentals of cast-on, knit, purl, and bind-off. We’ll make small swatches in class and practice the basic techniques of seaming rows-to-rows and stitches-to-stitches. And we’ll talk about how these techniques are used to put garments and other knit pieces together. Learn to seam, and a whole new world of knitting will open for you!

Materials: 25 yds #5 (chunky-weight) yarn in light or bright color, US 10½ knitting needles, and tapestry needle.


SP5 Edgier Edges Add edge to your edgings with these 2 easy, pretty, beginnings. Reverse yarn overs create eyelets on the YO chain while cast on/cast off stitches give the picots their teeth. Sew your chains around garments, pick up stitches in them to get started, or simply add findings and wear them as jewelry!

Materials: #4 (worsted-weight) yarn, 20-30 yds in solid, light or bright color; knitting needles in size recommended on ball band AND 1 size smaller.


CC5 Stranded Color Learn to work holding 2 colors at the same time! Commonly called Fair Isle knitting, this technique for stranding colors across the back lets you create brightly colored and patterned fabrics. While working on a small bag/hat project you’ll practice getting an even tension (not too tight, not too loose), learn ways to prevent yarns from twisting, and try different holding techniques. Come get a taste of this classic knitting technique!

Materials: 2 balls (50 yds each) #5 (chunky-weight) yarn in 2 complementary colors and a US 10½ circular needle 16” long, measured tip to tip.


TT33 Introducing I-cord What is I-cord, you ask? Only the most versatile cord ever unvented! In this class you’ll learn how to make basic Stockinette stitch I-cord, how to scale it up and down, and how to add color with 1-row stripes. From practical handles and drawstrings to decorative fringe and jewelry, versatile I-cord is a great addition to your knitting toolbox.

TT28 Jazz Up that I-cord! Learn how to go beyond the basic Stockinette stitch tube and create cords with style. We’ll look at how stitch patterns add twist and texture to I-cord, as well as have some unexpected effects. You’ll leave with a mini pattern dictionary of cords to try next!

Materials: 20 yds #4 (worsted-weight) yarn; one set of double- pointed needles in appropriate size for yarn.


TT16 Circular from the Inside Out Used to working in the round from the outside in, decreasing your way to the center? Learn how to work the other way, starting at the center and increasing out. Working on double-pointed needles, you’ll learn an easier way to start in the center while knitting a cute coaster (or two!). We’ll talk about increase types, as well as their placement for design purposes (spokes, spirals and concentric circles)

Materials: 70 yds #4 (worsted-weight) yarn in light/bright color; 1 set US 7 double-pointed needles; US H hook.


TT32 I-cord on the Edge Edge your knitting as you work it! In class you’ll create a swatch with I-cord edges worked at the same time, learn how to turn a corner, execute an I-cord bind off and create I-cord button loops. We’ll discuss additional ways to edge with I-cord, as well as how to handle gauge considerations. Turn your swatch into a cuff or coin purse!

Materials: 20 yds #4 (worsted-weight) yarn, set of double-pointed needles in size appropriate for yarn.


PP3 Knit One Below Scarf Columns of color on one side, blended swallowtails on the other! The column pattern makes a fabulous fabric produced by working only 1 color per row. Learn the best cast-on for K1B fabrics, how to find the stitch in the row below on both sides of the work, and how to use the slide manuever to get the yarn you need next. This class will get you started; you won’t want to stop.
