    A contract was finalized between U.S.-based STJ Battery Inc. and Takashi Suzuki, of the Suzuki Technical Research Development Research Institute established in 2008, who invented the new technology Iron Phosphate Rechargeable Battery Cells that use Lithium, Nano Carbon Fullerene. They received an investment from an investment company to fulfill the Self Generation Incentive Program run by U.S. CPUC to supply U.S. electronic companies or sell batteries domestically or abroad.

    B. Japan STJ Battery Inc. Technology

    Lithium batteries were developed because lead batteries were no longer in use, however, price, lifespan, weight, the danger of exploding along with other negative aspects were a limiting factor. The next generation technology utilizes Nano Carbon Fullerene as the material to reinforce the negative aspects of lithium batteries.

    1 Compared to lead-acid batteries it has 3~5 times the energy density, as the volume is less the space utilization is better and it is lighter. Compared to a lithium ion battery the energy density is equal but the volume is about 20% less.

    2 The strong crystal structure of the battery lies in the covalent bond state. There is no puffing expansion with exposure to high temperature or gas. There is no danger of explosion or fire when overcharging or over-discharging. There is no risk of electrolyte leakage.

    3 With excellent temperature reaction characteristics there are no problems such as decline in lifespan at high temperatures and failure to activate at low temperatures. There is no need for storage at a constant temperature or humidity.

    4 It has about 4 times the lifespan of conventional secondary batteries such as lead acid batteries. It is the most economical rechargeable battery (2,400 times).

    5 It is possible to store for long periods as there is less than a 2%/month self discharge rate. There little to no concern of natural discharge in rain or winter.

    6 The life of the battery is ensured because there is no memory efficacy problem as in some other batteries. Battery activation device is not required to prevent memory efficacy.

    7 Rapid charge and discharge (charge time 2.5 hours - about 1/3 of the time of Lithium batteries) within discharge above 95%.

    8 Do not need separate maintenance or management personnel which reduces cost.

    9 The cost is about 20% less.

    Mr. Suzuki has more than 40 years of research experience. He began his research career in 1968 and on-going research work, specializing in Enzyme-properties. Mr. Suzuki has also spearheaded as a head researcher for Tokyo Chemical and for Japan Enzyme Company.

    In 2003, Mr. Suzuki had developed a unique kind of nano carbon material which provided a platform to establish Suzuki Technical Development Research Institute in 2008.

    1. Traditional lithium ion batteries are comprised of cheap chemical compounds, mostly metal ions that are toxic. On the other hand, the STJ battery’s makeup consists of vegetable fluids electrolytes.

    2. Existing lithium batteries consist of combustible gases and toxic components during over- charging or over-discharging, however the nano cell battery is eco-friendly and does not have toxic gases or flammable components.

    3. STJ Nano Cell provides shorter charging time (about 2~3 hours) with a 2C5A continuous discharge. It can be charged in 1/3 of the time it takes for a conventional battery.

    4 Safety - There is no danger of explosion or fire due to overheating during over-charging or over- discharging. - The internal resistance is extremely small and temperature rise during charge and discharge, thermal runaway, leakage or explosion does not occur. - Additionally the STJ Nano carbon battery is safe and functions even if it is being punctured or submerged in water.

    5. Longer Life Cycle - STJ Nano Cell extends its life cycle up to 2,400 cycles. In comparison LiCoO2 battery has a life cycle of 400 cycles.

    6. Energy Density - When the nominal voltage is 3.V, the discharge capacity is 120Wh/kg.

    7. Studies identify that the most potentially harmful cathode materials in traditional lithium ion batteries is Cobalt and Nickel. These materials can cause negative respiratory, pulmonary and neurological effects to those exposed. The STJ battery does not have Cobalt and uses less than 2% in total composition of Nickel.

    8. With the retail price targeted to be competitive with lead acid batteries, it will find new applications previously considered too costly with a target retail price to be 30% less than lithium ion batteries.
