LOCAL SUPPORT IN STOCKPORT

Page 2: Stockport

The Stockport Schools Sport Partnership (SSSP) offers support to all primary and primary special schools to further develop and maintain high quality PE, sport and physical activity for all pupils. The programmes help schools meet the requirements of the Primary Sport Premium funding, the Government’s School Games programme and provide measurable and sustainable outcomes for pupils.

The SSSP has over 10 years’ experience of providing a wide range of nationally recognised, high quality opportunities for pupils as well as supporting head teachers, subject leaders and schools to engage pupils in physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle.

There has been a significant growth in the profile of PE, sport and physical activity in schools in recent years and consequently expectations on head teachers and schools have likewise increased.

This Service Level Agreement will ensure that the provision of high quality support and guidance to schools is maintained to maximise the impact of the Primary Sport Premium and School Games programme.

The programme of support covers the full academic year and runs from September to July.

The packages outline the range of support available to:

• Further develop the quality of teaching and learning in PE.

• Engage pupils in age appropriate sports competition.

• Develop pupil leadership.

• Effectively use PE, sport and physical activity to contribute to whole school improvement.

• Engage the least active in physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle.

• Provide pupils with sustainable opportunities to maintain participation outside of school within the local community.

STOCKPORT COACHES REGISTER

In addition to the support on offer, Stockport provides a coaches register for schools, detailing coaches who work for themselves and coaching companies in many different sports and activities. This enables schools to buy coaches in themselves for specific areas of activity. Being on the register means that individual coaches have been through a process of checks and an induction course, making sure that they are in possession of up to date relevant documentation for working with children as well as have an understanding of PE in the national curriculum, school policy and rules, key issues in PE philosophy, planning and organising methods in PE, the need for safety of young people and safe teaching practice.

This register is live and updated regularly and relieves the pressure on schools to undertake minimum standard safeguarding checks when coaches visit their schools and work with their children. Schools can access the coaches’ register by going to Office online.

THAT IS SO HELPFUL!

Life Leisure is a dedicated provider of Specialist Sports Coaching to primary/primary special schools. The aim of this service is to support schools in promoting, developing and maintaining the highest quality of physical education, sport and physical literacy for all their pupils.

KEY AREAS OF SUPPORTWhilst services are tailored and bespoke to individual schools, the main key areas Life Leisure assist with are:
