Visit a library in Stockton-on-Tees this summer as there is something peculiar happening and the Animal Agents are reading books to catch the crook!

Join the Summer Reading Challenge to help solve the case of the graffiti writing and the strange case of a missing lunch, children will join in the fun with the Animal Agents by reading along. As children read library books for the Summer Reading Challenge, they will receive a host of stickers, some with mysterious smells. By collecting these clues in their detective folder, young readers will help the Animal Agents find out what’s really been going on behind the scenes!

Each year the Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to read six or more books of their choice during the holidays – fact books, joke books, picture books, audio books just as long as they are borrowed from the library. There are collectable incentives and rewards, plus a certificate and medal for every child who completes the Challenge (while stocks last). Children who complete the challenge will also be entered into a free prize draw to win some exciting prizes. The Summer Reading Challenge is free, open to all school children aged from 4 to 11 and is designed for all reading abilities.

How will the Summer Reading Challenge help my child? Research shows that reading for pleasure is central for a child’s life chances and their reading can ‘dip’ during the long summer holidays. The annual Summer Reading Challenge helps get three quarters of a million children into libraries each year to keep up their reading skills and confidence. Because everything changes when we read.
