When I sit down to write an opening letter for the catalogue I always reflect on where our industry has been and where we are headed. The past decade has certainly seen ups and downs. In our own operation we are entirely focused on beef cattle production. We do not have any grain income or oil and gas revenue to prop us up.

Through the good years and the not so good you, our loyal customers, have supported us. This support has enabled us to continue to advance our genetics whether through semen purchases, embryo production or sourcing superior herdsires. Whether you are a new customer or one of the many repeat purchasers we sincerely THANK YOU for your faith in our genetics.

It is an exciting time to be in the cattle business as we see calf prices continue to climb. Globally beef consumption is on the rise and the futures for fat cattle is very promising.

As we enter our 38th year of raising Angus cattle it is our pleasure to WELCOME you to our 12th annual bull sale. We will continue “Stoking The Fire” with powerful beef bulls with MUSCLE, PERFORMANCE & MATERNAL POWER!

Our good friends the Przekops from Lake Bottom Cattle Company will again be bringing an outstanding group of Simmental bulls. If you get the chance, stop in at their place and see as good of a set of Simmental cows as you will find anywhere.

All the tools to help you continue the success in your herd are available on March 1st. No nonsense, athletic beef bulls bred for trouble-free production right from calving ease, to weaning, to carcass production, to maternal strength. Come and find out why 80% of our bulls sell to repeat customers and the other 20% sell to people that used to buy their bulls somewhere else!

Join us Saturday, March 1st. The sale will start at 3:00 PM and be followed by a customer appreciation steak supper as well as some entertainment. The Pembina West and Flatbush 4-H Beef Clubs will be hosting the Spring Barn Dance starting at 8:00 PM featuring “Lain Roth and Wild Country” There will be silent auction items and a dutch auction on a calf shelter. Everyone attending the bull sale gets in free!

We look forward to your appraisal of the bulls. If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to contact us or any of our professional sales staff.

Regards,

Byron

Using Yearling BullsWe firmly believe in the use of yearling bulls and feel that it is one of the best years of their lives. It is a time when they are easy to manage and introduce to the herd and their only concern is breeding cows. When yearling bulls are managed appropriately they will perform better over time than bulls purchased as two- year-olds. Here are some guidelines for care of your yearling bulls:

• Upon arrival at your ranch, keep yearling bulls separate from older bulls and feed them a maintenance ration of 5 - 8 lbs of grain or pellets and free choice of hay. Then reduce the amount of grain so they are on straight hay or grass two weeks prior to turn out.

• Where possible try to limit the bulls to 45 - 60 days of pasture service the first year. At this time remove them and put them in a separate pasture with plenty of grass or good quality hay.

• A winter feeding ration of 3 - 5 lbs of grain or pellets plus free choice hay will put the bulls in condition and allow them to grow and develop. You will also benefit by one and probably two or more years of use out of a well-managed and healthy bull purchased as a yearling. 5

Cattle Inspection: All carry tags corresponding to the sale lot numbers. All bulls will be available for viewingprior to the sale.

Breeding Guarantee: All bulls are sound and right, selling with a responsible breeder guarantee of satisfaction. In the event of any unlikely dispute, the regular terms and conditions, standard with the Canadian AngusAssociation/ Canadian Simmental Association shall apply. All complaints must be reported in writing by the buyerto the seller within 6 months and any animal returned must be free of disease and in good health.

Terms of Sale: 50% cash or cheque payable to Brandl Cattle Co. or Lake Bottom Cattle Co. on sale day anda post dated cheque for the remaining 50% dated April 1, 2014 or pay the full amount at time of sale. Norelease will be given until satisfactory settlement has been made.

• Here’s the power bull we’ve been waiting for! Indexes of 120 WW and 119 YW. Jack Daniels is the sire of BCC Eileenmere Lad 17F that sold to Nightingale Angus in England. He went on to become the #1 sire in the UK for muscle and performance. This bull is probably the most similar to 17F that we’ve raised. The dam has averaged an incredible 116 index on her first two calves. Her son last year sold to Allan & Vicky Dzivinski. Accutron has sired many ELITE females that have lasted well into their teens.

• In coffee shops across the prairies you always hear stories of that one little Angus cow that always raises a great big calf...that is this bull’s mother! She is smaller in stature, but her first two calves indexed 113 and 105. I haven’t weighed her but at 707 lbs at 205 days this calf would be at least 65% of his mothers weight. A full sister recently sold to Tony and Cindy Hnatiuk. Mark this bull as well muscled and correct structured.

Doing what we love and loving what we’re doing – raising good cattle. And that never goes without having those few that just don’t make the cut. But we could not be more pleased with the products that our females have raised for us – our margin for those not making the cut each year are pretty low given the small herd we have.

It is our pleasure to join the Brandl Family and Brandl Cattle Company at their 2014 Stoke the Fire Bull Sale. Our Angus and Simmental bull selections have what it takes for good, strong livestock productions.

The boys from Lake Bottom Cattle for 2014 continue to be some strong, sturdy bulls that will go out and get the job done. They’ll get the cows bred and drop calves that will have the growth that producers need by weaning. And this will be for both the steer and heifer stock that the industry wants and needs. The heifers in the pen at home along side these boys have the same good looks and promise for good future mothers.

We wish the very best for each and every one of our bulls and the homes that they go to; for good fertility, ease of calving and great performance, something that we have been fortunate to have within our own production. We extend this for each of the cattle producers who have stayed with this industry through the good times and bad. Our time is coming fast. This could not be a better time for those looking to expand or even start their cattle production.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to buyers that have come to our farm and the tremendous support and interest we received at last year’s sale. Thank you so very much for your interest in our cattle. Welcome to Stoke the Fire 2014 and we look forward to the continued growth and success of all cattle producers in Alberta.

Regards,

The Przekop Family

• Here is a black Voyager son for you to take a look at! Voyager sold in the sale last year. If you liked how he looked, here is your chance to take home a bull built the exact same way! Real smooth fronted, and huge framed. He had one of the smallest birth weights but came in as our heaviest bull this fall; can you say performance? This is a bull that you can turn out with any cow, and all you can look for in the fall is the heavy weight calves that will be coming in.

Off of a first calf heifer we purchased from the good people at Rattray Simmentals, we couldn’t be more impressed with what she has done for us. Abby is also one of the first bulls that we get to offer from our new junior herdsire Rock On.
