Shoplifting can cost your business a lot of money each year, however, so can a full-time security presence in the store, and we are well aware that a lot of retailers just have not got a budget for full time cover anymore.

Uniformed Security Officers have their place in retail. Their job is to deter theft where possible, to deal with unruly behaviour from youths and to be a visible source of comfort to staff regarding their personal security. However, they are not a viable option for catching thieves and sending out a signal to criminals that your store is not a soft touch for shoplifting.

STORE DETECTIVESOur STORE DETECTIVE service has proven to be a cost effective solution for retailers in their fight against theft from their stores. Our Store Detectives are not just security officers out of uniform. They are trained completely differently to uniform security. Their job is to catch thieves and have them answer charges by the Gardaí signalling to everyone that the store they operate in will not tolerate theft.

HOW DOES IT WORK?Our Store Detectives wearing casual clothes pose as ordinary cus-tomers shopping in your store, browsing and selecting items into their basket or trolley, mingling with other customers and going about the business of everyday shoppers. They are, however, alert to each and every customer in the premises using their training to visually pro-file each person for indications that they may be considering stealing from the store. Following a strict protocol they will observe a cus-tomer: watching for the factors of theft – ASCONE (Approaching the item, Selecting the item, Concealing the item, continuous Observa-tion of the suspect at all times, Non-Payment of the goods at the checkout and finally Exit of the building without attempt to tender for the goods). When, & only when, the protocol for ASCONE is fully met, will our Store Detective identify himself or herself to the thief, arrest them for larceny and detain them to answer a charge by the Gardaí.

COST / BENEFITAfter the first few arrests in a store, word will slowly trickle out to the local criminal fraternity that Store Detectives are operating in the store. This is great news for the retailor as the criminals will now be a lot more cautious about approaching your store. We use a team of Store Detectives in each area of the country so it would be rare for the same Store Detective to be in a store twice in a given week.

Therefore, criminals know that Store Detectives operate in the store, but because they don’t know who they are and they are plain clothed, they don’t know when they are actually operating in the store. This is of great cost benefit to the retailor as they now have the perception that a Store Detective may be working full time, during all trade hours in the store, whilst the reality may be that the Store Detective is only deployed to the store on a couple of days per week.

TERMSWe are an adequately insured business to provide this service. We are also tax compliant and licenced by the Private Security Authority: Lic: 00360.

We charge a flat rate per hour fee for our Store Detective service with no premiums charged for Sundays or Public Holidays. There are also no other hidden charges.

We require a minimum of 8 hours per shift in any given day. We have NO minimum amount of days per week or month that you need to use the service. You can simply choose one month in advance of what dates you would like covered in your store the following month. There is no obligation on you to order any shifts from us in any month. In-voices are dispatched monthly on a 28 day term basis.

REPORTSWe operate an on-line portal called “SASSIE” that our clients can ac-cess at any time which allows them see copies of all Store Detective reports relating to their store(s). If you have a number of stores using the service the database can demonstrate trend patrons, league ta-bles and other useful reports in targeting your security resource.
