• We’re a leading-edge, niche product metallurgical coal company operating the underground Kestrel Mine
• Mine high-fluidity metallurgical coal – or coking coal as it’s known - & ship globally for use as a blend in steel production.
• We cut 9.1Mt of coal per year, with 75-80% reaching final product to minimise waste

Why metallurgical coal near Emerald
• Metallurgical coal is required for production of steel: heat & carbon to meld with iron ore into a strong construction material. There are a couple of other ways to create steel which are less efficient & more expensive – at the moment, met coal is the primary means to create steel for our world today.
• For us, mines are about people, the potential created & fit to place. The people that work with us, our local community, & the people & society which benefit from the deployment of Kestrel coal in the world. We operate as a business near Emerald due to geology: but we’re important to the families & businesses who make their life there, & they’re important to us. Emerald & Central Highlands is our home.

As a means for safe transport to/from site, Kestrel provides a number of buses from Emerald & Capella into both our sites.
Buses work with different shift times & rosters, reducing traffic on public roads.

When Kestrel took over running Kestrel mine – we wanted to be different. We asked our workforce, we chose blue as our uniforms. The trouble was – no one else made them! Not put off, Kestrel engaged local provider to source manufacturer custom made cobalt blue light weight long sleeve shirts, plus and pants, jackets and some corporate wear.
