April 2021

Assisted Living

Mary Carr, new to the Assisted

Living neighborhood at East

Village Place, expressed a

keen interest in the

Watermark University classes.

This is due to her background

in education, having been a

teacher of English as a second

language for Spanish

speaking students of all ages.

She holds a Master's Degree

in Liberal Arts form the Elms College and a Master's in World

Literature from Springfield College.

Mary recently shared a story from Greek/Roman Mythology with our

WU Short Stories class. Her interest in storytelling stems from her

youth and a family of great storytellers. Mary received a

Certification from the School of Sacred Storytelling as an

Apprentice & Journeyer in 2001. It took her over 12 years to earn

this certificate by attending courses around the world taught by Dr.

Wilhelm. Her final presentation was in front of fellow storytellers

of various backgrounds. Be sure to attend one of her sessions.

Story TellingEncompass Health has recently

partnered with EVP to provide physical,

occupational & speech therapy

options for residents in need.

Jason Wegiel, Area Manager from

Encompass and our point person, has

great ideas on ways to help us age

gracefully.

Encompass will be conducting various

programs within our community. We

look forward to a blood pressure clinic

that will begin this month. Health talks

will be featured once per month starting

in May. These talks will be open to

family members, staff and residents to

attend. Some of the topics will include

but are not limited to; Living well with

dementia, Dining as we age, Fall

prevention, Home/apartment safety,

Heart health, Diabetes management and

more. Please join us for these classes.

Path to Well-Being

Join East Village Place in welcoming two new staff members to our

community. Kristal Vazquez Ortiz and Dwayne Greenland joined our team

in February and we are so happy to have them.

In her free time, Kristal enjoys listening to music and playing video games.

Kristal's grandparents inspired her to become a CNA as well as her desire

to connect and care for others.

When Dwayne is not at EVP he enjoys soccer, listening to music

and reading a good book. Dwayne's patient and positive attitude are

inspiring. His passion for caring for others shines through in everything he

does.

Welcome to the EVP family Kristal and Dwayne! We are all so grateful to

add your big hearts to our Community, while helping our residents thrive.
