Stranger Things Have Happened

Genre: Alternative Rock

Length: 4 Minutes

The story of our music video is about a man waking up and going about his daily routine, but everything is not as it seems. We

used the name of the song to decide this. It will involve the use of reverse shots and shots where something in the frame is

different to what it should be. The climax of our film is that we find out we are inside the mind of a dead man.

AudienceAudience range: 14- 30

Based on the modern form of viewing music videos, our target audience will be the Youtube audience. As Foo Fighters mainly appeal to there live audience, having played all over America and around Britain, so to be able to appeal to them to see our video, marketing for the video would need to go alongside tour dates in music magazines or papers.

Also just simply using the video on popular or mainstream music video TV channels such as MTV Rocks or Kerrang and Scuzz as these will follow similar bands with similar styles. As the song we have chosen is acoustic, however, it will need to be taken into consideration the the times it would be shown so as to fit in with the surrounding songs

Genre and stylistic influences Life On Mars

A bbc tv series based on a man who has been in a car accident and woken up in

1973 as a police officer. Hints throughout the series suggest that he is in fact in a coma and may be imagining the whole

thing.

Our main idea of the music video is a man who doesn’t realize he is in a coma in

hospital and near death. Life On Mars uses more obvious clues as to if he's imagining this or not where as our video is going to

have more subtle hints of surrealism

René Magritte

He was a Belgian surrealist artist. He became well known for a number of witty and thought-provoking images. His work

challenges observers' preconditioned

perceptions of reality.

Anthony Browne

Is a British author and illustrator of children's books. This particular book is very surreal if the reader

studies the pictures carefully.

Shutter Island

This film (based on a book) does not reveal to the viewer what exactly is going on but if you pay

attention there are subtle hints at surrealism. This is more towards what we are going for in our

music video.

Page 7: Stranger things have happened

Fight Club

This is rather like Shutter Island in the way that it only uses subtle surrealism and things

out of place rather than reveal the twist early on in the vote

The Truman Show

This is different to the other influences as the surrealism is more obvious to the viewers and the

main twist is revealed early to show how the character is going to deal with the situation. All

though this is different to what we are aiming for, we can refer to this for inspiration as to how to

show that something is not quite right in the world the main character is in.

Different locations including The Chauncy School, Ware Town and Hartam Meads will all be used to film our music video. Each location refers back to the song lyrics providing a visual image for the viewer.

Mise en Scene

Narrative StructureOpening shot, we zoom out of a persons head as they awake and retreat from there bed, as he walks downstairs, the photos in there frames are different, pictures of people lying in the roads in front of cars and the shot continues till we see into the living room where we see a car crash on the television. He then approaches the conservatory window and stares out, then cuts to him sitting at the table. Stop motion animation clip,

The next part is of various shots around a school, with certain shots of rooms or corridors where you would expect to be lots of people there but instead there aren’t any. A particular shot of him walking down an empty corridor as the bell goes but no one appears and he turns around to look.

Finally he moves out of the school into the town and walks around, with various things moving in reverse motion, for example a waterfall in reverse. He then stops in front of his home and falls over as we hear the sound of a heart monitor in continuous motion. We then cut to black and zoom out of the mans head again only to find he is in a hospital, dead.

Ancillary task 1

Website Homepage

For the band we are doing, we decided a homepage on a website would be a good way of briefly showing who the

band are. This is also a good opportunity to show creative skills in the online area of media

This webpage below is the homepage for the indie band Foals. This band are not massively successful, how ever

they do have a fairly big following. I have chose this bands webpage as an example and inspiration for our own as it is simple yet highly effective in grabbing the

browsers attention.

The background is simple but the way it looks colour wise is very striking and

effective

The name of the band is directly in the centre

and is again very simple, which I think is

a good idea

The links to other forms of media they are on are easily located

down this side of the page

Ancillary Task 2The second ancillary task is to produce an advert for a digi-pack in a magazine. The advert will be presented in a alternative rock magazine as it will attract people who listen to similar music and who’d be interested in listening to something new that relates tothem.

These are CD advertisements which all relate to our bands music and are find in NME magazine.

I think Elbow’s website is a good site to take inspiration as the homepage looks simple, however, when you hover your mouse over a letter of their name, it is

animated. Links appear and the side of the letter when you do so.

Interesting and unique style
