About the Degrees in Strategic Ministry Christian leaders minister in a complex and rapidly changing world. Effective leadership in this context requires a biblically-based philosophy of ministry, skillful analysis of cultural dynamics, the capacity to think and plan strategically, and the ability to lead and equip people to extend the kingdom of God in His world. Both the Bachelor of Strategic Ministry degree and the Master of Strategic Ministry degree involve a partnership between Johnson University and the church that equips students for this kind of effective, strategic Christian leadership. Throughout both programs, residents are mentored by experienced ministry leaders. The bachelor’s degree is a 9-month residency program following 3 years at an undergraduate institution. The master’s degree is a 12-month full-time program.

Both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees include a nine-month residency at one of Real Life Christian Church’s Orlando campuses. Students complete a Leadership Core and can choose a concentration including: church administration, pastoral ministry, communication, youth ministry, children and family, Care Counseling, campus multi-site or worship/production.

Overview of Residency Program

• Johnson University has partnered with Real Life to provide students a 9-month residency experience that prepares them for vocational ministry.

• Real Life will host residents and provide training in specialty fields, such as student ministry, pastoral or worship ministry. (9 credits)

• Additionally, residents  gather one full day a week with professors who guide them through a core of ministry leadership courses. (21 credits)

• The program emphasizes hands-on, experiential practical learning.

• The program includes a graduate version in which students complete the 30-credit, 9 month residence with additional work, higher levels of learning, and higher levels of assessment as compared to undergraduate students.

• Graduate students also complete an additional online class the summer prior to the residency and a final reflective class near the end of the residency. Graduate students earn the 34-credit Master of Strategic Ministry within a year. The program also includes an undergraduate version in which residents spend their senior year in residence earning a 30-credit major in Strategic Ministry.
