FRANKLIN ROAD: PROJECT UPDATE March 2018

Roundabout at England StreetThe Wellington Street / Franklin Road intersection is now open to traffic and the Napier Street detour is no longer in place. The construction site for the roundabout is now located at the England Street / Franklin Road intersection. This allows Downer to safely construct the second half of the new Franklin Road roundabout and have it completed and open for use in April.

Traffic flow along Franklin Road will continue to run in both directions. The temporary traffic lights will remain at the Wellington Street/Franklin Road intersection as a safety precaution to control vehicles through the intersection during construction. We encourage you to use alternate routes when possible to avoid traffic delays, especially during peak hours.

England Street will remain closed to through traffic until the roundabout is complete.

Detours from Franklin Road to England Street will be in the place via Middle Street and Wood St. Please see the detours outlined on the back page of this newsletter.

Quick Updates Footpath upgrade

Footpath upgrade works along the eastern side of Franklin Road between Wilkins Street and Napier Street are now underway.

Safe pedestrian diversions are in place around the site but please continue to travel through the area with care.

Drainage works

Installation of the new strormwater lines and catch pits on the western side of Franklin Road continue between Scotland Street and Victoria Street.

The installation of new stormwater pipe underneath the footpath between England St and Scotland St will be completed before the end of April. This pipe will connect to existing private stormwater lines along Franklin Road.

Street light upgrade

Street light upgrade works have been undertaken at the Wellington Street/Franklin Road intersection. This is to ensure ample lighting is provided for pedestrians and traffic.

Street light upgrade works have now commenced around the England St/Franklin Rd intersection.

Vector works in the area

The installion of new underground cables for home connections on Franklin Road (between Wellington Street and Ponsonby Road) will commence this month. Installations are expected to be complete mid 2018 .

These works are not being undertaken by Downer.

Downer has completed construction of the new Franklin Rd roundabout’s eastern side. The intersection closure has now switched to the western side of Franklin Rd, closing vehicle access to and from England St. Detours are now in place until late April 2018.
