What is Street Photography

Street photography is a image which is captured on the street, creating a natural feel. It documents a public place and aspects within a photo creates a street photograph by the natural activities and events what are happening in it. You don't need to prepare for taking a street photograph as the unplanned effect is what makes the image. A image will capture, explore or question the relationship between individuals and their surroundings.

A decisive moment is popular in street photography as it creates a good visual image to look at. It is all about capturing the right moment at the right time. For example if someone if jumping the decisive moment would be them up in the air, this adds to the photo. A moment before or after this may not have the same effect.

The Do’s an Don’tsThere are many ethical, moral and legal do's and don'ts what you need to consider whilst doing street photography. There are a range of do's such as:• Smile, this helps as you come across as polite and it relaxes

people.• Be respectful, they are allowing you too take a picture so you

shouldn’t take advantage as this may come across rude or disrespectful.

• Ask for permission, a majority of people will allow you to take photos but its nice to check.

and the don'ts:• Don't take pictures of children without permission.• Security operations, this may cause you issues.• Don't go right up close to peoples faces if they don't want you too.• Take photos of people when they have already said they don't

want you too.

Ethical ConsiderationsTaking pictures of certain people may offend them so you need to consider if taking that picture will actually benefit them and is it really needed. An example of this is homeless people, they probably wouldn't want you to take a picture of them for no reason unless it was benefitting them. Or maybe someone from a different culture for example a Muslim standing outside a off license, taking a photo of that isn't illegal but out of respect you probably shouldn't.

Rui PalhaThis is a photo taken by Rui Palha. I like the photo as it is such a simple photo but so effective. I like the comparison of the dark tones and light tones making it portray emotions. The feelings the image gives me are empty and lonely. It works well as it almost tells a story and the photo  itself gives of a natural feel.

Rui PalhaThe photographer..Rui Palha has been interested in photography since the age of 14 and since 2001 and now is devoted to street photography. He always takes black and white images making sure his photos are full of soul and inspiration. When taking photos he always look for the moment but feels he hasn't captured it yet but will try forever.

My PhotosThis image was taken when I was at Carnaby street. I thought it would create a good image due to the colour aspects and surroundings behind the visual point. I used Photoshop to manipulate the image by changing the colour of the background to black and white to make the purpose of the image stand out. I also changed the brightness to make it more visually appealing.

My Photos

This image I also took in Trafalgar square. I like the angle of the photo as I took it from below and the sky in the background creates a natural feel. The quality of the image is not great but the brightness brings out the aspects within the picture.

This photograph is of a water fountain which I took in Trafalgar square. This is one of my favourite images which I took as I think it creates a visually appealing image. The lighting in the photo makes it clear and defines aspects of it making it high quality with a professional feel producing hard light.

My PhotosBoth these images I got the inspiration from Rui Palha. I tried to create a similar style but changed certain aspects by making colour exist in the image. I kept the underground red and blue to make it the visual point and give the picture more of a meaning.

This image is also similar to Rui Palha work. The original photo is not very good but using Photoshop to manipulate the colours and brightness brings more to the image. I think the crowded atmosphere makes the image as it represents London.

My Photos

This image I took was of a street entertainer which captures a natural shot. The image has quite a lot of negative space with in but this makes the focus point more defining. The image was captured at the right moment as it doesn’t look posed but still an average photo.

This photo represents London. It is quite a fun and quirky image capturing the subject matter and the area around it. I think it would have been a better image if there was more people around to demonstrate a better atmosphere. I like the lighting of the image as it shows clear detail.

My PhotosI took this image in Trafalgar square of Bollywood dancers. It sort of represents a decisive moment as they are all doing a certain move and if I captured it before or after it wouldn’t have the same affect. I like this picture because of the contrast between the black and white background and the colour elements. The image demonstrates hard light as the sun produces shadows within the image. I used Photoshop to edit the background to black and white and change the brightness so it stands out as much as the dancers.

My PhotosThis image is quite simple but still quite a lot going on. I took it looking up which makes it an odd angle. If it was straight on I think it would have been a better picture as you would have created more of a background. I changed the background black and white keeping the lamppost the same colour.

I think this image is visually appealing due to the contrast and brightness as it brings out the detail in the image. The contrast between the black and white background and the blue water makes it have a professional feel.
