STREET STYLES(Part-2)
SKINHEADS
What was true of appearance was also true of altitude-they welcomed conflict and aggression.
FUNK
The adjective funky was applied to everything from black music to soul food. In terms of dress and adornment styles it was in the form of pimp look.
GLAM
unisex became a reality, experimentation was free to serve simply as an expression of personal identity.
RASTAFARIANS
This style was shaped by the beliefs in a life which emphasized peaceful tolerance, personal dignity and was inspired by the ancient African civilizations.
HEADBANGERS
It was a marriage of hippy and a rocker culture. Return to no nonsense rock ‘n’ roll fundamentals and simply having a good time.
SKATERS
There was little to distinguish Skaters from Surfers, but Skaters inhabited the world of concrete and frequently at odds with the authorities.
PUNKS
They were amazingly eclectic, drawing inspiration from various style tribes but blending these into a totally original concoction. They just grabbed whatever caught the eye based on the DIY approach which generated endless, bizarre variety.
NEW ROMANTICS
White, zany but politically inoffensive, flamboyant, overdressed style tribe which provoked wry chuckles of disbelief rather than serious concern.
GOTHS
A profusion of black velvets, lace, fishnets and leather tinged with scarlet or purple, accessorized with tightly laced corsets, gloves, precarious stilettos and silver jewelry depicting religious and occult themes.
CASUALS
Expensive sportswear and a more football oriented lifestyle.
PSYCHOBILLIES
They exhibited alarming fixation with violence and wanton destruction, but this was tempered by a wonderful, surreal sense of humor, which made you smile.
PERVS
The extraordinary popularity of 'Fetish Fashion'. Beneath the shiny black facade there was a serious commitment to exploring a new sexuality.
B-BOYS, FLY GIRLS
Their essential ingredients were defined by the rigors of strenuous dancing, athletic trainers and tracksuits, together with snug caps.
RAGGAMUFFINS AND BHANGRA STYLE
The style was refreshingly unique. In particular, it's layered textures and many different shades of denim.
NEW AGE TRAVELLERS
It was a remarkable mix of New Age spiritualism and No Future tribalism, of natural, folksy styles juxtaposed with crazy colored Mohicans and bovver boots.
RAVERS
It was an extension of what had begun with the Casuals.
ACID JAZZ
It was inspired by amazingly diverse even contradictory sources.
INDIE KIDS, CUTIES GRUNGE, RIOT GIRLS
They were basically over or under sized items bought second-hand in charity shops.
TECHNOS AND CYBERPUNKS
Their delight was in technology and their futuristic vision.
