It will be an absolute delight to welcome students back on site this

coming week. We are very much looking forward to Tuesday 26th

May when our Foundation to Year 2 students come back through

our school gates. We hope you are all just as enthusiastic and

excited as we are. This enthusiasm and excitement to be heading

back has already created a positive vibe around school.

Our teachers and support staff who have worked so hard to

connect with students during this remote learning period cannot

wait to get started back in the classrooms with your children.

Curriculum Days - At our School Council meeting on the evening

of Monday 18th May we had approval for 2 Curriculum Days in

Term 4. These are 2/11/2020 and 10/12/2020. These will provide

teachers with an opportunity to work together in data analysis and

planning for 2021.

AGM Afternoon Tea (If restrictions are lifted) -We are hopeful,

as restrictions ease, to be able to invite parents and carers to an

afternoon tea on 20 July 2020 where there will be an opportunity to

view the Annual Report and Annual Implementation Plan and ask

questions about these documents.

AGM Meeting attached to School Council -We have a planned

AGM, which we have attached to our 17 August School Council

meeting. Again we are hopeful this will be on-site. We will provide

further information regarding this event closer to the date.

How is Mathematics Taught at Streeton Primary School?

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions we will be unable to run our planned parent information evening for Mathematics this coming Monday. Instead we have prepared a PowerPoint that will be uploaded to our school website on Monday, 25 May. We are hopeful parents and carers will view this document and get an insight into how we teach Mathematics/Numeracy from Foundation to Year 6. Some of the content areas within the PowerPoint are as follows -

Areas covered in maths The four Proficiencies and how to build them in our students The Structure of the maths lesson Grouping of students Assessment in maths

We are also hopeful to have a Q & A session for parents to ask questions that might arise from the PowerPoint. In addition to this, later in Term 3, we plan to run a hands-on maths experience for parents to get a first-hand look at some of the activities we do within the classroom, the open-ended nature of sessions and how teachers scaffold children from one level to the next. Camp Australia will not be running a pupil free day program

at Streeton on Monday 25th May.

However, there will be a program running at St. Mary’s Primary School,

Greensborough. If you are in need of care on this day please speak with

Habiba or ring Camp Australia on 1300 105 343 for further details.

Foundation/Prep Enrolments 2021

Starting school is an exciting time for you and your child. Choosing a school that upholds your family values, has high

academic expectations, offers creative and sporting opportunities and provides a caring and supportive environment is

important to all parents. At Streeton Primary School we take great pride in providing a caring and dynamic environment

that places your child at the centre of the learning experience.

We continue to receive Prospective Foundation/Prep parents and carers ringing the office to enquire about the enrolment

process for 2021.

Due to the current state in Victorian schools we have cancelled all the scheduled school tours and open days until further

notice. Application forms for our 2021 Foundation/Prep intake are available on our school website.

At present we are endeavouring to reduce the number of people on the school premises, so application forms and

additional documentation can be email through to the school.

- Regular Peer Observations - These need to occur at least once per term in English Writing and Mathematics.

- Physical Data Wall needs to be ready for use and then utilised by all staff to ensure all students are being

catered for.

- Assessment and Reporting Leader providing Professional Development in the exploration and use of data.

How this data can be used to identify students, groups, cohorts and in turn direct planning and delivery.

- Assessment Schedule being utilised by all staff.

- Teachers trained to be data literate using the SPA program in conjunction with the data coordinator. Possible

use of the PLC model to ensure a deeper understanding of data inquiry and a model to embed change.

Be inspired by the Royal Botanic Gardens, from home (ages 2+)

Here's one for those wishing to spend a little time out in the sun. There's fifty things to do on this

massive outdoor checklist. Kids can challenge themselves to cross a task off the list a day, as they

venture safely outside for some fresh air and exercise. These activities can be applied to most parks

and gardens, or even your own backyard, while the Botanic Gardens are closed.

No mess science experiments (ages 5+)

In the mood for a little bit of science? Scienceworks have got you covered. Among long -form articles

of science stories and fascinating facts, there are virtual tours of the museum's best exhibits, for fam-

ily members of any age. Check out their YouTube channel, where you can view the results of various

scientific experiments. Some can be replicated at home and others should be left to the experts,

such as exploring what can and cannot be heated up in the microwave.

Wednesday 20th May was Australia’s World Bee Day.

The 34DJ & 34P made some creative Bee Watering stations in Earth

(weekly environmental program) recently.

Here are some designs from Alec, Kristijan, Archie, Caspian, Darcy, Derek, Emily S,

Esther, Fraser, Joybelle, Mitchell, Olivia, Ruby, Taye, Tiana, Vinny, Ella, Eva, Haylee,

Molly, Lauren and Xavier W.

Bees need to drink water on hot days so I made a bee watering station from a pot and some shells I

found around my home. The bees can come down and rest on the shells to drink the water in the pot.

Normally you would put the station near flowering plants but as we don’t have any in our garden at

the moment, I haven’t seen any bees yet. Hope to see some soon. Fraser

My bee watering station is made from a plastic container and I put rocks, marbles and a shell so

the.bees can stand on the rocks and have a drink and they don ’t drown. Bees need water to drink all

the time. And I put it in my garden near some flowers. Kristijan

We decided to make a bee water station after seeing a tired dehydrated bee on our car. We looked

at ideas on Pinterest, bought our supplies a terracotta pot and saucer, rocks and spray paint. We

chose blue spray paint as bees are drawn to the colour blue. The rocks provide a safe place to land

without drowning. Bees not only need water to drink themselves, but they also gather water to take

back to the hives and nests. Bees also tell other bees where to locate water and pollen. We placed

our water station in our rose garden next to our lavender plants, bees love lavender. Eva

PREMIERS’ READING CHALLENGE 2020

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge (PRC) is now open and Streeton is excited to be once again

participating in this event. This year it will look slightly different due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading

for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of

books by 4th September, 2020. All students at Streeton Primary School have been registered and will need to have

finished reading their required number of books and entered these online no later than 4 th September, 2020.

A new application is being used this year that offers a range of exciting features including:

• access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)

• a modern user-friendly interface

• the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review

With the commencement of the The Premiers' Reading Challenge (PRC) for students in Foundation to Year 6

there are a number of requirements that must be met. Students in Foundation to Year 2 need to read or have

read to them (experience), 30 books (20 of which are in the challenge book list). Students in Years 3 to 6

need to read 15 books, (10 must be from the challenge book list).

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and

former Premiers.

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME 2020

National Simultaneous Storytime is back for its 20th year! Join Streeton Primary School on Wednesday 27th May 2020 at 11:00am as we head into the world of Whitney and Britney the

Chicken Divas!

National Simultaneous Storytime and Covid-19

Unfortunately a face-to-face National Simultaneous Storytime event is unlikely to be possible this year, so we encourage you to participate in our virtual event. Streeton Primary School has once again registered for this event and classroom teachers will, at this stage, conduct this event virtually. If things change, and students are encouraged to come back to school, we will amend this and conduct the event onsite. Please stay tuned for further details. We will send them to you as they arise.

Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas

"Whitney and Britney are two gorgeous chooks who live alongside Dora von Dooze. But Dora is perplexed - why do her dear chickens seem to sleep all day long? Dora decides to snoop. She follows the chooks out at night to the local jazz club where she discovers, to her amazement, that they are Whitney and Britney: Chicken Divas!"

Lucinda Gifford is the author and illustrator of many well-loved books for kids. Her books include The Cat Wants Custard series written by P Crumble (Notable, CBCA awards 2017 and 2018), the Chook Doolan series by James Roy and The Adventures of Princess Peony series by Nette Hilton (Shortlisted in the 2019 Speech Pathology Awards). Her picture book Dogasaurus was a Notable in the 2019 CBCA awards. As well as Chicken Divas, Lucinda's most recent work includes a new junior fiction series with Emily Rodda-Monty's Island, and Saved!!! a picture book collaboration with Lydia Williams, goalkeeper for the Matildas.
