Stress Management

You need to know…- One psychological therapy – stress inoculation- One biological therapy – use of drugs

Be able to describe and evaluate both – could be a 12 mark question!!!

Stress“A mismatch between the perceived demands of a situation and your perceived ability to cope with it”

So a good stress management technique should be able to reduce the perceived demands of a situation and improve coping abilities

Stress Inoculation Training (SIT)

A form of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy This means it focuses on thought and actions

- A stressed person often overestimates the demands put on themselves, so the therapy aims to make the client think more rationally

- Also aims to target behaviour – improve coping strategies through practise so they react to stress better
