It all began with rowboats and fishing boats: the Pedrazzini yard in its first year (1914).

detailversessene Handwerkskunst.
DIE HöLZERNEN KUNSTWERKE DES VATERS KAMEN
IN DIE BESTEN HäNDE. IN DIE SEINES SOHNES. Augusto
Pedrazzinis ältester Sohn Ferruccio entwickelte die gleiche
Leiden schaft für den Bootsbau. Ferruccio Pedrazzini studier-
Zukunft all das ausstrahlen, was sie schon immer ausstrahlten:
Wertigkeit, Zeitlosigkeit und Formvollendung – die Aura der
Pedrazzini-Bootsbaukunst.
IN THE BEGINNING, THERE WAS WATER. AND
AUGUSTO PEDRAZZINI’S LOVE OF THE ART OF BOAT-
BUILDING. In 1906, Augusto Pedrazzini emigrated from Italy’s
Lake Como district to the shores of Lake Zurich, and realised
his dream of establishing his own small boatyard. He pursued his
calling with equal measures of pioneering spirit and excellence
in craftsmanship. He created many sophisticated designs over
the years, starting with fishing boats and rowboats, and later sail-
ing dinghies and sailboats. Every boat bore Augusto Pedrazzini’s
unmistakable signature. Each one reflected his high quality stan-
dards, his love of fine woods, and his obsession with the artistic
details of his craft.
THE FATHER’S PASSION FOR WOODEN MASTERPIECES
PASSED INTO ABLE HANDS: THOSE OF HIS SON. Augusto
Pedrazzini’s eldest son Ferruccio nurtured the same passion for
boatbuilding. In the late 1930s, Ferruccio Pedrazzini studied
nautical science and design at Livorno in Italy, and successfully
carried the Pedrazzini firm into its second generation. In the
mid-1950s, he designed and built the first Super Leggera, a small
outboard sport boat that was very popular at the time. During
the same period and from designs by Ferruccio Pedrazzini, the
yard also built the Capri Super Deluxe, the runabout from which
present-day Pedrazzini motorboats inherit their charac teristic
classic lines.
TO PRESERVE A HIGHLy ADVANCED BOATBUILDING
TRADITION. AND REFINE IT. This is the guiding principle
by which the family, now in its third generation, still builds
its wooden boats. Today, Claudio Pedrazzini preserves almost
100 years of family tradition and continues to perfect the firm’s
motorboats. His runabouts embody the pioneering spirit of
Augusto Pedrazzini, and showcase Ferruccio Pedrazzini’s flair
for Italian design and Swiss precision. They are still manufac-
tured with the same passion and meticulous care as in the 1950s.
And in the future as well, they will continue to radiate the same
qualities as before: value, timelessness and formal perfection –
the aura of Pedrazzini’s boatbuilding art.
AU DéBUT RéGNAIT L’EAU. ET L’AMOUR QU’AUGUSTO
PEDRAZZINI VOUAIT à LA CONSTRUCTION DE BA -
TEAUx.
At the Pedrazzini yard in Bäch, the art of boatbuilding is still practised as it has always been. Frames, keel and stem stand ready and work begins: the frame structure is assembled upside-down.
High-quality woods, including oak and mahogany, are laboriously bonded together by hand to form hulls and decks. The sophisticated wooden struc ture is enormously strong and durable.
The art of boatbuilding at Pedrazzini involves both in-depth engineering skills and a great amount of manual work, slowly giving shape to a time-
less, classic form. The 8 mm thick mahogany deck panels are fitted into the hull with hairline precision and solidly bonded.
Glowing blocks of brass are welded up into fittings, then carefully filed, polished, and chromium-plated. The chromium creates an exciting contrast with the warm brown tones of the stained mahogany.
BRAUCHT ES VOR ALLEM EINES: ZEIT. VIEL ZEIT. Es be-
Materialien. Bis ins kleinste Detail.
ABOVE ALL, BUILDING A PEDRAZZINI BOAT RE-
QUIRES TIME. A LOT OF TIME. Its unique hull shape and
striking lines took years to develop. Even today, the design con-
tinues to be subtly evolved and adapted to the latest technical
advances. The fine mahogany wood took years to reach opti-
mum strength for the hull structure. Claudio Pedrazzini’s boat-
builders need 1,800 to 4,000 man-hours (six to nine months) to
build a single runabout. That’s a long time, but this perseverance
is just what’s needed to create a runabout that will last even longer.
WOODS ARE CAREFULLy INSPECTED FOR QUALITy,
FITTING ACCURACy IS VERIFIED, EVERy INDIVIDUAL
PART IS EVALUATED. Practically every element is made by
hand, from the frame structure to the solid mahogany planking
to the custom inlay work. Wooden components are painstakingly
planed and sanded, for hours or even days, to exactly the right
contours. Piece by piece, skilled boatbuilders’ hands fit these
precious parts together to make a new runabout.
THE FUTURE OF PEDRAZZINI BOATBUILDING IS
ROOTED IN THE PAST. The Pedrazzini approach to boatbuild-
ing has changed very little from the beginning. Over the years,
production has been neither industrialised nor expanded. Today,
it would undoubtedly be possible to streamline certain working
processes and thereby increase production volumes. But quality
would just as certainly suffer, and a Pedrazzini boat would no
longer be a Pedrazzini boat – an absolutely unthinkable scenario
for this tradition-conscious family firm. So everything remains
as it was. Runabouts are of course equipped with the latest tech-
nology and state-of-the-art engines, but they are created in the
same time-honoured way as always: from the finest materials
and with attention to every detail.
long.
L’AVENIR DE LA CONSTRUCTION DES BATEAUx
Boats are in expert hands at Pedrazzini. They are lovingly overhauled, ex - pertly repaired, and cared for, and then returned to the water. On request, runabouts can be kept in storage at the yard, helping them retain their radi- ant beauty and their value.
With months of manual work, the individual parts are slowly assembled into a greater whole. Every detail is perfected, inspected, and perfected again, until everything fits flawlessly.
The runabout derives its classic look from refined precision assembly: fine strips of spruce are inlaid into grooves milled with millimetre accuracy into the choice deck ply- wood, then glued into place.
After eight coats of lacquer, the hull has a silken gleam, but by no means silken enough. The marine plywood deck and the hull are given up to 20 layers of a high-quality clearcoat, imparting a deep gloss to each boat. Every runabout is resistant to both salt and fresh water, and with minimal care will retain its brilliance and dura - bility for many years.
From the hull shape and the technical components to the power train and the propeller selection, all the details are carefully checked and meticu- lously co-ordinated. Not a single boat leaves our yard until all elements interact in perfect harmony.
AT FIRST SIGHT, THE RUNABOUT LOOKS LIKE AN
EMINENT TRIBUTE TO THE 1950S. A SECOND LOOK
REVEALS ITS INTRINSIC VALUE. The sleek elegance of its
lines, the perfect form of every component and the classic design
are unmistakable reminders of 1950s Italian charm. A closer
inspection shows all the details that create that elegant person-
ality: a multitude of fascinating amenities, crafted with an unstint -
ing degree of precision that is probably unique in modern
boatbuilding.
THE HULL AND DECK ARE FABRICATED FROM SOLID
MAHOGANy; HANDMADE FITTINGS ACCENT THE
ELEGANT DESIGN. High-grade teak grating ornaments the
swimming platform; the dashboard is made of the finest burl;
the convertible top is cleverly designed to stow quickly and
discreetly. Every last detail is carefully engineered and perfectly
fashioned in both form and function – even if it may never be
noticed. Although virtually no one else would think to check
the alignment of the screw slots, Claudio Pedrazzini believes in
the importance of lining up every single one absolutely straight.
That’s his notion of accuracy and attention to detail.
yOU DON’T SEE A PEDRAZZINI RUNABOUT EVERy
DAy. WE RATHER LIKE THAT. The value, timelessness, and
formal perfection of these motorboats becomes truly apparent
only when you are looking at an actual Pedrazzini runabout. But
there are only few opportunities to admire one of these wooden
wonders at close range: they are an extremely rare sight on the
world’s waterways. Production volume is strictly limited, and
very few of them leave the yard at Bäch each year. This is not
only a consequence of a time-intensive and quality-obsessed
construction approach, but also expresses a certain restraint.
Pedrazzini runabouts should be reserved for just a lucky few.
Those who are among them appreciate this philosophy.
AU PREMIER COUP D’œIL, LE RUNABOUT EST UN
HOMMAGE PLEIN DE STyLE AUx ANNéES 50. AU
SECOND, ON RECONNAîT SA VALEUR INESTIMABLE.
Detail ausmacht.
MAHAGONI GEARBEITET, HANDGEMACHTE BE SCHLäGE
Bauweise. Sie ist auch Ausdruck einer gewissen Zurückhaltung.
