STRIP: Caricatures, Satire and The Funnies

Traditional strip formats, single gag panels and caricatures have a long history in newspapers and underground publications. The Studio Door is celebrating this form of creativity by presenting new, independent voices of pop art and the comic strip.

JAVIER HERNANDEZ

Javier Hernandez is a cartoonist and art instructor. In 1998 he launched his publishing imprint Los Comex from which he’s published the majority of his comics work, including “El Muerto”, “Maniac Priest”, “The Coma” and “Dead Dinosaurio,” among others. His work is in the collections of Stanford University, Ohio State University and The Durón Family Collection.

In 2007 he served as the Associate Producer on the live-action film adaptation of his comic book “El Muerto,” starring Wilmer Valderrama (That 70’s Show).

In 2011 he co-founded the Latino Comics Expo, the nation’s first convention dedicated to spotlighting the work of Latino cartoonists, writers, animators and other creative talents working in comics and the related popular arts.

The latest comic will debut this Fall online and in print featuring a husband & wife superhero duo caught in world of voodoo! He will also be an honored guest at the inaugural "Sol Con: The Brown & Black Comix Expo" this October 2-4 at Ohio State University.
