Johnny Green is famous for his country blues brand of unique music. He was a star at Tamworth with his band Johnny Green’s Blues Cowboys for over 20 years. They are more an event in itself rather than a band. New hotel lease owner Brendan and his team at the hotel look forward to welcoming regulars and newcomers alike. The Stroud Central Hotel is a great spot to stop and enjoy what “surely must be one of the best beer gardens in the Hunter Valley”. The recently-installed huge projector screen is ideal for the upcoming footy finals. The NRL grand final promises to be a huge day at the hotel with renowned Newcastle band Montezuma playing in the afternoon lead-up to the big game. Montezuma hasplayed the past four years at the Caves Beach Hotel on New Year’s Eve but has recently committed to being in Stroud for New Year’s Eve 2013. It is all part of the new vibrant feel of the hotel. The bistro is still open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner producing great food with supplies from Stroud’s famous butchery. Things are hotting up for this weekend’s Stroud Rodeo. As in previous years the charity rodeo promises to be an outstanding event, according to organisers. It is now acknowledged as one of the premier events on the rough riding tour, ranking in the top 10 in the country. Competitors and spectators have rated the arena as the best on the eastern seaboard and it is recognition of this fact that has attracted Gloucester Coal as the event’s major sponsor Events include bull riding, bronco riding, bulldogging and barrel racing. A full campdrafting program is also held in conjunction with the rodeo. A “maximum points” venue on the national circuit, the rodeo puts forward prize money of over $30,000. The event enables donations to various charities, which exceeded $350,000 since its inception with cancer research being the main beneficiary The rodeo is held in an international standard venue providing all-weather seating for spectators On Friday the campdraft commences at 6.30am and the junior rodeo will start at 5.30 that evening Campdrafting action will continue Saturday morning from 7 with the rough riding to start at 9am and continue into the night Following the rodeo, the RoughStock Band will entertain the crowd. The rodeo weekend is a huge community event forStroud and The Central Hotel has managed to attractJohnny Green and Ezra Lee to play together with theirband on both Friday and Saturday nights.
