DESCRIPTION

With a First Class BA(Hons) Interior Architecture and Design degree coupled with a fascinating military career and a in depth knowledge on BIM applications I would regard myself as the ideal candidate for an architectural practice.

About Me

I have always been drawn to the idea of reanimating

old forgotten buildings and spaces with a series of

strong interventionist responses.

This appetite for old architecture and wanting to

re-animate existing buildings provoked me to take an

Interior Architecture and Design course at Leeds

Metropolitan University.

My vibrant spectrum of creative processes allows me

to respond to a multitude of environments including

landscape, architecture, habitat and exhibition

design. These environments are usually steadily

developed through my passion for accurate model

making at both a micro and macro level. I have the

ability to integrate animation, video, sculpture and

accurate visuals into a design project to further evoke

the genus loci alongside exciting clientele.

My architectural work is rigorously driven by my

emotional responses to buildings and site, focussing

on the manipulation of space to give an immediate

human connection with the interior.

Final Major Project

Cliffe Fort – W.AR.P Project

Cliffe Fort is a former torpedo station built on an

arms manufacturing site. It is now a scheduled

monument, abandoned on the South bank of the

River Thames, Rochester. It was proposed that

Cliffe Fort will be repurposed to become an open-

air museum which will focus on three major factors.

These three factors being ‘Weaponry, War Art and

Peace’.

W.AR.P Project will present weaponry from the

past, present and the future though will challenge

the convention of displaying the artefacts of war

and weaponry. W.AR.P will offer an alternative

‘way of seeing’; posing questions about how we

explore ‘War Museums’ and how the act of war is

glorified.

Strong underlying messages will be exhibited

throughout the fort, conveying how weapons

continue to affect people’s lives; deliberately

creating a debating platform for visitors to facilitate

and enter into a new dialogue.

A series of six insertions have been gently placed

inside the ruined walls of the fort; presenting the

visitor with a clear definition between the old and

new as visitors circulates the museum’s exhibition.

The former parade ground has been encouraged to

flood allowing the opportunity for migrating fowl

and other birds to roost upon proposed landing

stages, bringing together the brutality of war with

the innocence of nature.

Voice Pavilion – Live Project

Halifax Piece Hall, Halifax

This design saw the construction of a

contemporary pavilion in the setting of a Grade

One listed former Georgian Cloth Hall. Its purpose

was to inform Halifax residents of new

developments in the area, alongside the intention

to provoke response and expression of opinion.

The concept behind ‘Voice’ took inspiration from

the film ‘Brassed Off’, which was partly filmed

nearby. With Halifax being renowned for

generations of brass band ceremonies, I felt it was

highly appropriate to make this delightful legacy

the backbone of my conceptual development.

My proposal saw three unchallenged plateaus

resting within the Piece Halls open square,

providing a series of platforms on which art

workshops would take place. These workshops

would allow sculpture experimentation with

recycled brass band instruments and components.

The towering corten steel structures provided a

backdrop to each plateau. Tiny perforations in

each section cause the structure to act as a

panopticon. This in turn would create an eerie,

unearthly music that shall act as the ‘Voice’ to the

residents of Halifax.
