STUDENT AFFAIRS 3Assumption University of Thailand

PREFACEAssumption University of Thai-land’s fundamental aim is the to-tal development of each student’s human potential in physical, emotional, moral and intellectual aspects. The Student Affairs De-partment is responsible for ac-tivities and services that develop these capacities by integrating out-of-classroom learning with the regular student course work. We hope that partaking in this in-tegration of studies and outside activities will lead students to un-derstand that learning must be a lifelong process integrated with their personal and career activi-

ties, so that they will continue to grow in all aspects of human ma-turity throughout their lives.

The Student Affairs Department is also responsible for establish-ing an atmosphere that looks beyond the usual limits of edu-cation to promote maturity and a higher wisdom based on critical, independent thinking, positive attitudes and values, and the freedom and courage to express oneself in productive ways for the good of society.

We hope our students will love and appreciate their institution, and continue to grow in their understanding of and esteem for the value of art, nature, the environment, and Thai and in-ternational cultures for the rest of their lives.

QUALITY OF LIFE SECTION

Center for Student Personality and Campus Life

This center consists of various units upholding the promotion of both physical and mental well-ness of students as guided by the university mission. The services offered are developed to nurture students’ emotional and psycho-logical strength for social adjust-ment; to cultivate civic value; to provide safe and comfortable facilities that enable students to achieve success in their intellec-tual and personal development. Four main tasks are classified as Student Right and Discipline, Personality Development and Counseling Services, Residen-tial life, and Student Welfare.

Student Right and Discipline

The unit is responsible for es-tablishing and administering the code by managing the universi-ty’s judicial system that focuses on individual right, fairness, and personal growth within an edu-cational and safe environment. It takes a leadership role to en-force the policies and procedures concerning the behavior and value of students as outlined in the Code of Student Conduct; it promotes the right of students to exercise their freedom of choice constructively; and also inves-

tigates and adjudicates reports against students involving in al-leged violations of the Code.

Personality Development and Counseling Service

A student’s mental health is one of the important parts of suc-cess in academic achievement. Students face tumultuous chal-lenges involving adjustment and stress in studies. Counseling and out-reach program provided by our counselors are designed to as-sist students to overcome those difficulties.

The residence halls pro-vide an integration of excellent facilities with internet technology and comfortable secure living conditions. all residents by providing ori-entation and information, giv-ing them advice and assistance when they experience difficulties and encounter problems. Within a short walk to classrooms, fac-ulty, library, academic resources and recreation facilities, it helps students enjoy their life at AU.

The In-ternational Center becomes a mentor to help foreign students to settle into their new surround-ings and adjust to Thai customs and culture. Nevertheless they will never lose their national identity during the years in Thai-land, because many events and activities allow them to commu-nicate their cultural heritage to colleagues from different coun-tries. This in turn leads to cross cultural awareness, mutual un-derstanding, the appreciation of other cultures and unity in diver-sity among people in our multi-national community.
