BOLIVIAN STUDENT CHAPTER
“Vision for Geosciences in Bolivia”
Annual Report 2018 and
Proposed activities in 2019
1. Introduction
The Bolivian Student Chapter (BSC) of Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) “Vision for Geosciences in Bolivia” is an association of students from the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés. It was created in October 2011, obtaining official recognition of the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) in June 2012. Also, has the support and endorsement of the Association of Geologists of Bolivia (CGB) and the Geological Institute and Environment (IGEMA). This partnership was established with the aim of organizing short courses, lectures and field trips related to Economic Geology and Geology in general, in order to supplement the training grade of Students Chapter members and also other students, and enrich the training of geologists who are interested in those topics for the advance of geosciences and in conclusion for Bolivia´s economic development. The operation of the BSC- SEG is governed by rules of the Society of Economic Geologists, such as the formation of a team of 4 members Executive Committee: President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, democratically elected every year by a vote conducted among all members of the Student Chapter. The role of the executive Committee is merely formal as all BSC members are committed to working equally in activities that are organized. Additionally, the BSC has as an academic advisor, who in turn is a University Professor and Fellow of the SEG, and as industry advisor who is the former president of CGB and Fellow of the SEG. This document is the Student Chapters Annual report of activities in 2016-2017 (October), presented to the Student Chapter Program from the Society of Economic Geologists. The Student Chapter present in October of each year, 1) a report of activities of the previous year,2) proposed program activities for the next period and 3) a request for SEG grants, funds will be used for conducting courses, conferences and field trips organized by the BSC in coordination with IGEMA and CGB. Consequently, the BSC through this document has met the issues described above.
The members of the BSC- SEG are:

Summary of activities of the BSC - SEG (January 2018 –December 2018) 1. Regular Meetings and Lectures
1.1. Regular Meetings
The BSC has conducted regular meetings (two times per month) to organize and evaluate activities held during this period. Specific tasks for the executive committee of the Student Chapter were to develop efficiently scheduled jobs as well as assign new tasks that came up.
1.2. Volunteer work
The BSC SEG work in 2017 - 2018 has organized and filed the library of the Colegio de
Geólogos de Bolivia (CGB). More than 3000 books and 1500 magazines were indexed in a
database for a faster search. Work in which all the members of the chapter invested time
and effort. On the other hand, we were compensated by the CGB with a lots of support to
our activities, education and training in geosciences.
1.3. Work in translation
One of the member’s activities is the English-to-Spanish translation of pocketbooks of field
geology, the first one in process is ME Tucker's "Sedimentary Rocks in the Field" with the
goal of communicating with the publisher and authors so they can publish it in Spanish.
This process is reviewed by our academic advisor R. Matos S.
