STUDENT CLUB 1. DHWANI 2018 Dhwani is a fest organized exclusively for the first year students by the students of New Horizon College, Marathahalli. Dhwani 2018 was conducted in order to help the freshers step out of their comfort zone and find their voice. The fest acted as an icebreaker among the students, imparting a sense of healthy competition. The fest spanned across 3 days - 16th, 17thand 20th August. The students were given a wide range of opportunity to participate in cultural as well as management events. A total of 12 events (one event from each club) and one common event were conducted. The theme for DHWANI 2018 was SUPERVILLIANS. The fest saw around 100 participants and was put together by a team of 20 coordinators headed by V.K Venkatraman and Rachana DK. We received a huge response for the event from the students. Their debating skills were monitored by Ms. Prasanna Prakash and Ms.Manjula. There were two rounds: random dual between the participants and choosing topics on the spot. The second and final round named “Champions vs Challengers” saw a panel of seasoned moderators posing questions and grilling the finalists after which five participants were shortlisted. The event observed various topics that give insights to the happenings of the society and various current affairs. The senior students gave a demo of 1 on 1 debate to highlight the quintessential calibre to be possessed by a debater.

This event tries to bring out the creativity and thought process of the participants. The artist has to paint a super villain of his own creation or take inspiration from existing characters. The participants were given 60 minutes. The participants were judged on the basis of their creative ideas and presentation and on their explanation of their painting. This event tests the creativity and the presentation skills of the participants. The participants drew super villains using their own creativity within 60.

Winners: 1st Place: Hari Krishna (BBA C) 2nd Place: Gafira (BBA A) and Samiksha(BCOM C) 3rd Place: Ashutosh (BCOM A) Event Description: Aircrash is an event where the participants are in an imaginary situation where they are in a plane which is about to crash, and they need to convince the pilots/panel as to why they deserve the last parachute and not the others. This event shows the wit of the participants and how quickthinking they can be when put in difficult situation. There were two rounds in the event. In the first round, the participants were given the names of famous celebrities whom they had to assume they were and convince the panel. The best 10 were chosen for round two and they were given the names of various supervillains who they had to act as. They were judged on the way they spoke and how well they were able to convince and answer to the questions of the panel.

Event Description: The event was about marketing a daily-use item by the participant in their own imaginative manner and convince the panel to buy their product. It was an individual event where each participant was given 2 minutes preparation time and 2 minutes marketing time to convince the panel. The participants were judged on the basis of their capacity for persuasion, articulation, relevance and ability to be a sales person. The participants were smart, witty and creative in their own way. The judges Mrs. LincyJoykutty and Mrs.VaniDhawan selected the winners considering the above mentioned criteria.

Event Description: The event was performance or acting based and was divided into two sets: mime and mono-acting. Mime is the theatrical technique of suggesting action, character, or emotion without words, using only gesture, expression, and movement. The participants formed a group of 5+1. The topic was ‘Poverty and Politics’.

In mono-acting the participants need to give a solo performance on any topic of their choice. The event mainly focused on how well they presented a play with criteria such as creativity, expression, presentation and dress code.

Name of the event: Poison Ivy (Spotlight) Date and time: 14th August 2018, 11:00 am Venue: Chanakya Seminar Hall Coordinators: Shreya R Bakale Sub-Coordinator: Ardra Asok Winners: 1st Place: Aditya (BCA A), Harikrishnan (BCA A) 2nd Place: Neha (BBA B) 3rd Place: Aishwarya (BCOM A), Manjunath (BCA B) Event Description: Poison Ivy emphasized on showcasing individual talents of the students such as dancing, singing, stand-up comedy etc. The time limit for the competition was 1 to 1.30 minutes. Ms.Kampa and Ms. Rajkumari judged the event. There were some very unique performances such as fusion dance, mimicry of famous actors, keyboard music etc. Everybody was amused by the talents of these participants. The event ended with the announcement of winners and there was a cheerful response from the audience as well as the participants.

Duo and groups with up to 5 members were allowed to participate and sing in any language for 1.30 to 2 minutes. The criteria for judgment were voice quality, clarity, selection and rhythm of the song. The judges were Ms. Bhavya and Mr. Rajesh. The participants showcased their talents with bollywood, fusion and mash-up songs. There was also a performance from the fellow seniors.

Name of the event: The Dark Shade (PHOTOGRAPHY) Club: Photography Club Date and time: 14th August 2018; 12:30 pmto 2:30pm. Venue: Briefing in room no. 202 and event was conducted throughout campus Judge: Mrs. Manjula P Coordinators: Gokul TV Sub-Coordinator: Shwetank Singh Participants: 9 Winners: winner: SaiKaushik (BBA C) 1st runner up: Rahul Gautam (BCOM B) 2nd runner up: Joyel Reddy (BCA A) Event Description: The Dark Shadeis a photography event. Participants were asked to click 5 pictures in B&W (monochrome) depicting a story. There was only 1 round of the event. Criteria of judgement werecreativity, framing and composition. The time limit of the event was 2 hours. Participants were supposed to click pictures within the campus. There was no specific topic given to participants, they were free to show story of their choice. Participants were only allowed to crop and adjust the brightness in their pictures. Both mobile and camera photography were allowed. We received many creative entries and those were judged by the judge of the event Mrs. Manjula P.

The event was conducted successfully with the help of members of NHSC and the teachers.

It is a platform for the freshers to showcase their dance skills. There were about 9 groups with around 40 participants Rules: Song limit: 1 min 30sec -2min 30sec. Members:2-5 minutes per group Participants enthusiastically took part and performed on different forms like Bollywood, semi-classical,hip-hop, freestyle,etc. The participants were judged on the criteria of costume ,makeup, co-ordination, formation, etc.

Participants were asked to dress up according to the theme of DHWANI (SUPER VILLAINS) and were judged on the basis of their confidence, walking stance and attitude.Participants were asked to introduce themselves and speak on how their attire and make-up relate the super villain they represent. The judges for the event were Greesham, Sowmya, Asha and Kampa.

2.Fresher’s day 2018

Date and time: 16th JULY 2018. 1PM ONWARDS Venue: MAIN AUDITORIUM Fresher’s day 2018 was organized exclusively for the first year students by the students of New Horizon College, Maratahalli, on 16th July, 2018 in the college main auditorium. The event was held welcome the freshers and to help them step out of their comfort zone and find their voice. The fest acted as an icebreaker among the students.

The very purpose of Fresher’s Day party is to welcome newcomers in a friendly atmosphere, and to encourage their creative impulses to boost their confidence. It is the day where seniors and juniors get to bond and unite to celebrate being part of the college.

The event was celebrated with much excitement as Mr and Miss Fresher were chosen. Mr Yatish and Ms Tina were crowned as Mr and Ms Fresher. The day also saw around 6 mesmerising performances put together by the core committee headed by Venkatraman V K and Rachana Dharmesh K.

3. Ethnic Day was held on 28th February 2018.

As a fitting finale to Tarang 2018, Ethnic Day was held on 28th February at the Quadrangle, HemuKalani block. The faculty and the students turned up in traditional attires depicting different culturesand were dressed in their ethnic best.

A competition was held to choose the best dressed male and female. VishwarajJadeja of 6th B.B.A and Ujwala of 6thB.C.A were adjudged as winners. The overall champions of Tarang 2018 were announced. The championship was bagged by 4th Semester B.B.A ‘A’ Section. Class mentor Ms. Jissa Varghese received the trophy on behalf of the class from the Principal,Dr. R Bodhisatvan. In second place was 4th semester B.Com Professional and Global section and in third place was 6th semester B.com Professional section. Head Of The Department, Commerce, Ms. Greeshma Francis appreciated and gave a special mention to the classes that gave 100% participation in all the events.

5. Dhwani fest for the first year students, organised on 27th and 28th July 2017

The fest acted as an icebreaker among the students, imparting a sense of healthy competitiveness. Spanning across two days - 27th and 28th July 2017, the students were given a wide range of opportunities to participate in cultural as well as management events. There were a total of 10 events; one event from each club and one common event . The events were Whistle A Tune (Group Singing), One Beat ( Group Dance) , Improv, The Voice out (outreach activity), Debate, Crisis Management, T-box, Pix-Fiction (photography), A creative mess (art) and Spotlight - Mega Event. Event Description: Group singing, with 2-3 participants in each group. Participants could sing in any form/style of music. The participants were given 2-3 minutes to perform. They were judged on the basis of their quality of voice and synchronisation.

They were given 45 minutes in order to come up with a solution and plan their approach. Participants were then given 2-3 minutes to present the problem as well as the solution in the form of a speech or a poster. The judging criteria were to look out for the most creative solution or the one with the most impact. Event Description: T-box was an adventure club initiative based on Dhwani’s theme - Tic tac toe. A competitive game wherein the participants, a team of three had to play a game of tic tac toe on a life sized model of the game. The teams were allotted a total of 15 minutes to understand, evaluate and form a solution to the crisis. The team had to elect a media representative, CEO and Managing director among themselves in order to represent the interests of the company. Each team was given a total of 7 minutes, 4 minutes to present the crisis and provide a solution and three minutes for the judges and the media to ask questions. The participants were judged on the basis of their situational awareness, team work and effectiveness of the solution. The participants were given 15 minutes to prepare for the same. The participants then had 3 minutes to put forward their views and 2 minutes for their counterpart to question the views put forward. </p> <p style="text-align:justify;">For round 2 the participants were given 10 minutes to

prepare on their respective topics. The participant then had 3 minutes to put forward their views. The judges could ask the participants to switch sides catching them completely off guard. The judges and panel crossed questioned the views of the participant. The participants were judged on the basis of their confidence , knowledge , eloquence and rebuttal. The second round required the participants to capture a moment based on the given theme. They were given two hours to submit the photographs. The photographs were judged on the basis composition, lighting, creativity and the ability of to tell a story. Participants had a minute to prepare and 2 minutes to perform. The participants were judged on the basis of their expressions, emotions , spontaneity and dialogue delivery.

7. Freshers day 2017 was celebrated on 21st July 2017. NAME OF EVENT: FRESHERS DAY 2017 DATE: 21ST JULY 2017 TIME: 1:30 PM ONWARDS VENUE: NEW HORIZON COLLEGE AUDITORIUM Freshers Day is a day all about fun, festivities, and a whole lot of interaction. We celebrate the newest batch of students and this day is dedicated to them. Freshers day 2017 was celebrated on 21st July 2017, where the second and third years of New Horizon College put together a show for the first years. The theme this year was RUBIK’S CUBE and students were asked to dress themselves using at least 3 colors of the cube! The show was anchored by 4 students - Tejus, Akaanksh, Rakshita and Gagana. Rahul and Bhargav were on technical and Kirtana directed the event.

The purpose of the event was crowning of Mr and Ms Fresher after a series of competitions. The rounds included picking people from the audience by shooting random questions like ‘What is the name of the block’, ‘the person who can say A - Z backwards’, ‘person who can solve the

Rubik’s cube’ and more fun activities. We then had a talent round where students could showcase any talent they have while introducing themselves in a creative way. The winner was decided by- a minute to win it, challenge called the bottle flip! There were also fun performances given by the students of NHCM. There was a dance by the girls of BCA department, a mock rock showing ‘expectation vs reality at NHC’ by the 2nd year BCOM boys and there was also an impromptu dance battle between the seniors and juniors!

The event ended with the crowning of Mr Fresher Elisa Naik of 1st BBA section A. and Ms. Freshers Shivani Aisiri of Bcom of batch 2017 by the former winners, Shreya Bakale and Adithan.

8. Intercollegiate Management Fest SPARK - (March 10 & 11,

New Horizon College Marathalli organized an inter-collegiate Management Fest SPARK-2017 on 10th and 11th of March 2017. Around 60 students from various colleges participated in it. The event began with an inaugural ceremony which was held in the New Horizon auditorium at 10.00am on 10th March. Kirtana Ganpathi of 4th sem BBA, formally welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members and the participants to the fest. The principal addressed the gathering and declared the event open. The inauguration ended with a dance performance by team Panache.

The event coordinators took charge of the smooth execution of the respective events in the respective venues. Each event consisted of 6 different rounds and was judged by internal and external judges.

The event concluded with Mrs. Greeshma Francis presenting a summary of events. She thanked everyone involved partially and completely for the success of the fest Cash prizes, certificates and mementos were given to all the winners of the events . CMS Jain College won the overall trophy for SPARK2017.
