SPECIAL FEATURES

11 National Service Scheme: Our College has an NSS unit from the year 2006 which renders service to the society The unit

consists of 100 volunteers and has been organizing various activities like awareness programs, donations to the needed,

honoring of important days etc. Every year the unit conducts an annual special camp of 7 days were the volunteers renders

their service to an adopted village.

2) Capitaline and Pro Quest The college has subscribed capita line and proquest which will give access to the database of

20,000 companies for past 20 years It also includes 4,500 journals.

3) Centre for Psychological Counselling: AIGS has a center for counseling which is under the Department of Psychology

where students can approach with their problems and find remedial measures and solutions. The faculty of Psychology along

with other faculty will be effectively dealing with the student problems.

41 Student Welfare Committee: The Welfare Committee is committed for the welfare of the students. This committee directly

interacts with students and hence has a wider appeal within the student community.

The students have been benefitted by lectures, workshops, trainirrgs and personality development programs organised by

this cornmittee. Lectures on student relevant subjects like stress management. time management. career counseling are

addressed by experts in the respective fields. This committee also redresses the genuine grievances of the students, so that

a congenial atmosphere for studies is created.

51 Language Lab: The English Language lab set up at AIGS offers to impart communication skills to students in an attempt to

help them finesse the job market which is ever growing. The lab offers to hone the communication skills of students based on

the current status of each student ranging from the fundamentals of grammar to higher levels of pronunciatIOn skills.

The lab is equipped with advanced editions of books on Communication Skills, Basic English and Advanced English along with

CDs. The lab can accommodate 60 students at a time and train with the aid of headphones and television to improve their

pronunciation skills.

6) Library & Information Center: AIGS Library was set up in the same year 2005 and IS committed to ensuring access to

current. accurate information for better quality of life for the young generations. The Library is given its due importance and

7) Women Cell- AGNISHIKHA: Women Cell was constituted at AIGS with the followmg objectives:

1. Prevention of sexual harassment and the promotion of the general well-being of female students, teaching and non-

teaching women staff of the University and affiliated Colleges/ Institutes

2. Provision of guidelines for the redressal of grievances of female students, teaching and non-teaching women staff of the

University and affiliated Colleges/ Institutes

3. Creation of social awareness about the problems of women and in particular regarding gender discrimination.

4. Encouragement of the participation of NGO's working in the area of women's development in the activities of the Cell

GENERAL DISCIPLINARY RULES

"Education does not mean teaching people to know what they do not know; it means teaching them to

behave as they do not behave" - John Ruskin

In keeping with the tradition of the institution, all student of Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies (AIGSj

are asked to maintain discipline and decorum in the campus and refrain from any activity that can damage

/ tarnish the reputation of the institution. Violation of this will result in inviting disciplinary action under

Act of AIGS/BU/UGC regulations

1. Every student should attend the classes (theory & practical) regularly so as to maintain a minimum of

75% attendance in each subject failing which he will not be allowed to take the final examination.

2 Violation of any rule will lead to strict disciplinary action including rustication or expulsion from the

college. The orders of the Principal as to discipline shall be final and binding to all students

3. All students are required to wear UNIFORM on five days of a week.

4. Mobile phones are strictly prohibited in campus. If any student is found using the cell phone, the set

will be seized.

5. Eatables can be taken only inside the cafeteria Eating at all other places (especially class rooms,

laboratories & library) is strictly prohibited.

6 Birthday parties or other celebrations and photography are not allowed in college premises

7. Students are required to be in possession of the Identity card and produce on demand by the

authorities

8. Ragging (Physical, Mental or another sortl is a criminal offence, Student indulging in such activities

will not only be punished as per the order of Government of Karnataka but also the student will be

rusticated from the college. Prohibition of Ragging in Educational Institutions Act 26 of 1997.

Ragging in any form or time is banned in the campus as well as in the hostel and all senior students

are asked to adhere to this rule

9. Students and college personnel are entitled to a college environment free from threats and physical

aggression of others. Fighting, assault and battery, and threatening others are prohibited.

10. Any offense of carrying or possessing a weapon in College or at any College sponsored event would

result in a referral to the Disciplinary Committee with recommendation for expulsion.

11. Students are not permitted to possess, use, sell or buy any controlled substances including illegal

drugs, alcoholic beverages, drugs.

12. Smoking within the college campus is strictly prohibited.

13. Students using vehicles are required to wear the helmet and limit the speed to 20 km/hr within the

campus limits.

14. All students are advised to keep the environment clean and not to litter the campus.

15. Classroom Discipline Procedures

Discipline Inside the Class Room

1. Maintain silence inside the class room during the class hours

2. Stand and wish the staff, on entering and leaving the class

3. Listen to the class with keen interest

4. Maintain Punctuality

5. Do not discuss with your friends when lecture is going on

6. Wear clean and neat uniform

7. Keep the class room clean

8. Do not play inside the classroom.

Discipline Outside the Class Room

1. During the class hours do not talk loudly which will disturb the class

2 While walking do not make noise

3. Do not Roam outside during the class timings

4. Morning at 9.00 am do not sit outside the classroom and chat with friends.

5. On seeing the staff student should wish the staff and the staff should wish the student

6 Do not wait for your friends during the 10 minutes break which will lead to late entry into the class

16 Dos & Don'ts during Examination:

Dos

i) Use only scientific cplculators

ii) Bring 10 card and Admission Cards for every examination

iii) Enter the Examination Hall 10 minutes before the start of examination

iv) Inform the invigilators if you have to change the pen.

Don'ts

i) Do not write anything on the question paper except USN

iil Do not have any written materials in your possession

iii) Do not bring mobile / cell phones.

13. Students are expected to pay their fee and other college dues within the notified time failing which they

will not be allowed to attend the classes or practicals unless the dues are cleared. NO RELAXATION

WILL BE GIVEN AFTERTHE DUE DATE

DISCIPLINARY COUNCil

There is a Disciplinary Council in the college dealing with matters concerning violation of the discipline

rules mentioned above. The Disciplinary Council deals with breach of discipline, misconduct or use

of unfair means lin tests/examinations) by the students. If any student is found guilty of the offences

mentioned, he/she has to face severe consequences. The decision and proceedings of the disciplinary

Council shall not be challenged on any ground whatsoever.

The Progressive Discipline Process involves these escalating steps:

1. Verbal reprimand

2. Written reprimand

3. Suspension

4. Disciplinary termination

Verbal Reprimand

• It is a verbal disciplinary measure that includes a statement outlining to the student the nature of the

misconduct, the corrective action required, and the consequences should it not be corrected. No record

of this measure is to be placed on the student's personnel file.

Written Reprimand

• It should be first reviewed by principal It is a formal written warning that misconduct has occurred.

It should outline the nature of the misconduct, the corrective action required, and the consequences

should it not be corrected. If more severe disciplinary action should later become necessary, the record

of the reprimandls) on the personnel file will demonstrate that the student was made aware of the

consequences of further misconduct.

Suspension

• It is the temporary removal of the student from the college because of misconduct. The notice of

suspension should include the nature of the misconduct. the corrective action required and the

consequences should it not be corrected.

Disciplinary termination

• It is the separation of an student from the college for misconduct. It may be used after a series of acts

of misconduct when a "culminating incident" has occurred, or for a single act of serious misconduct.

Termination is the most severe disciplinary measure, and the decision to proceed should be taken

only after careful consideration and when it is determined that the student is no longer suitable for

continued to study because of misconduct.

PROCTOR SYSTEM

1. Proctorial system is followed in which 20 students are allotted to individual faculty who counsels

them.

2. Proctors maintain details of each student based on the student's performance, attendance and his
