During free periods, students should be working in the library or the Eagle Wing
The only acceptable student entrances into the main building are the Front Nine and the Weber Doors.
Students are not allowed on elevators or fire stairs without written permission

Attendance
Academic success is directly linked to attendance
It is the student’s responsibility to make sure that parents call in excused absences
15 unexcused absences will result in loss of privilege to attend dances and games and to participate in extra-curricular activities.

Theft is a concern in any place with large numbers or people. Palmer High School is not responsible for your personal items and we recommend keeping valuables at home
You must lock your valuables away every time
Please download the “Where’s my Droid?” or “Find my Iphone” apps. We catch many phone thieves with these two apps.

Bringing such items to school is an implicit agreement to surrender such items whenever asked to by an adult
Electronic devices may be used during passing periods and at lunch time
Electronic devices may not be used during class time without teacher approval. Devices should be confiscated if they are visible without teacher approval.
Downtown Community

Be careful crossing the streets. Several students were hospitalized last year after being hit by cars. Some cases were students jaywalking and other cases were drivers not paying attention. Regardless, be careful.

Ms W’s Policies
Be on timeBring pencil w/ eraser or a pen plus comp bookLeave No Trace (food and beverages)Electronics put all the way away. Ask if unsure. In my
desk if it’s out without permission.Late work – 50% off whatever you earnedNightly homework: read 10-20 minutes + study root
wordsEvery day get your folder, take out your comp book,
start on the root word, then do the Quick Write.Extension work is posted on my calendar – help
yourself.
Process the situation by answering these questions either in a discussion with someone or in your head.
How do I see the situation? What assumptions am I making? What stories am I telling
myself? How might other person/people perceive this situation?
(their perception, not what I want them to perceive)What emotions is this problem stirring up for me? What impact is this situation having on me? What do you think the other person’s intentions are? How is this problem affecting other people around me?
Other people in my life? What will likely happen if I ignore this problem? How will I
feel? What will happen? What would I like to happen?
Are you a victim of your impulses or negative thoughts?
Consider the fact that we have control over lots of our thoughts and actions all day, so decide to think and act in a way that doesn’t result in you feeling like a victim. Change your thinking to change what you’re feeling.
Write down your negative thought. (e.g., It’s not fair that I can’t sit by my best friend.)
Now re-write it as a positive statement. Flip it. (e.g., Ms. W thinks I’ll be more successful sitting here.)
Discussion Questions
What does it mean to be a member of the downtown community?
What is ok and not ok to wear to school?Where should students be throughout the
day?How do I care for myself and my property? How has the Student ID policy changed? Why is attendance important? How can Facebook/Twitter/Instagram affect
me in a positive or negative way?
