STUDENT LEADERS: CAMP WANAKITA STUDENT INTERVIEW QUESTIONS Name: Laila Hashem Date: 2015-04-10 1. Why would you like to be a student leader at camp next year? What are you hoping to learn? What are you hoping to teach others? I have the experience and I am supportive of all those who may be having a hard time. I have great leadership skills, I am patient, creative, outgoing, and I do believe I can learn to love the outdoors. Camp last year was a blast, I learned to appreciate nature and I tried a bunch of new things. I’d love the opportunity to visit Camp Wanakita, and learn more about nature. I am hoping to teach the grade 10’s to appreciate being outside and around their peers. I know first hand that it was hard getting used to the routine and doing all the activities, and I believe I can support and insure that the students attending have a great time! 2. How will a leadership position help you develop your future interests? A leadership position will help me develop my future interests by providing me with more experience working with kids. I’ve wanted to work as a camp counsellor in the summer for ages, as I absolutely love working with kids, and now that I am nearing the age of sixteen, I feel very prepared to do so. Volunteering at Camp Wanakita is a great place to gain valuable experience. 3. Please tell me about your past experiences in leadership positions. I volunteered at a 3-night cadet camp as a staff member. I had many responsibilities, I was a cabin head, a group leader, and I had the responsibility of taking night shifts in the woods (a group of people had to stay up for 2 hour shifts every night to guard the camp). I also volunteered at Petit Pearson Childcare during March break 2015. I stayed in the preschool room and helped the staff 8 hours a day, for five days.

1. Why would you like to be a student leader at camp next year? What are you hoping to learn? What are you hoping to teach others?I have the experience and I am supportive of all those who may be having a hard time. I have great leadership skills, I am patient, creative, outgoing, and I do believe I can learn to love the outdoors. Camp last year was a blast, I learned to appreciate nature and I tried a bunch of new things. Id love the opportunity to visit Camp Wanakita, and learn more about nature. I am hoping to teach the grade 10s to appreciate being outside and around their peers. I know first hand that it was hard getting used to the routine and doing all the activities, and I believe I can support and insure that the students attending have a great time!

2. How will a leadership position help you develop your future interests?A leadership position will help me develop my future interests by providing me with more experience working with kids. Ive wanted to work as a camp counsellor in the summer for ages, as I absolutely love working with kids, and now that I am nearing the age of sixteen, I feel very prepared to do so. Volunteering at Camp Wanakita is a great place to gain valuable experience.

3. Please tell me about your past experiences in leadership positions.I volunteered at a 3-night cadet camp as a staff member.

4. What do you feel you can contribute as a student leader? Be specific.I believe I can contribute a lot at Camp Wanakita as a student leader. I can encourage the students to participate in the activities, be a group leader and develop friendships with those around me. I'll be able to assist the staff with most activities and lend a helping hand whenever needed.

5. Give an example of a time when you demonstrated one of those strengths/skills in the past. When I volunteered at Petit Pearson childcare during March Break, I saw many kids being excluded from activities and refusing to participate as well. I decided to encourage them by participating with them. I was patient, supportive, and understanding.

6. What would be your biggest challenge as a student leader? My biggest challenge as a student leader will be waking up very early and going to sleep very late. I think during the last week of summer I may let my sleeping schedule get out of hand, and Ill be used to waking up pretty late.

7. What questions do you have about being a student leader? How many hours will each student leader receive?
