P4 Principles of LEADERSHIP Becoming a leader is a lot like learning how to JUGGLE. Anyone can do it, but there are steps to follow, skills to master, fears to conquer and much to learn from your mistakes. But if you are willing to do the work and never give up you will SUCCEED!

Two Important Rules: Rule #1: Never quit Rule #2: Always remember Rule #1

Basketball legend, Michael Jordan attributes his success to all of his failures.

The purpose of this conference is to assist students in furthering their abilities to LEAD others in a positive direction. Students will learn FOUR STEPS to becoming an effective leader.

P4 Principles of LEADERSHIP Maximize your POTENTIAL – Bring out the best you have to offer. Exert your POWER of influence – Positively impact your peers. Stay true to your PURPOSE – Motivate, inspire, be a force for good. Pursue your PASSION – Use the gifts you have to make a difference.

- Take the challenge…DARE 2LEAD - Now I Am the Voice

Maximize Your POTENTIAL

--Leaders are made, not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile. --NFL Football Coach, Vince Lombardi

ABC’S of LEADERSHIP

Positive Attitude

Believe in Yourself

Courage to Act

To earn the respect of yours peers, you must maintain a positive ATTITUDE. Attitude is a matter of choice, not circumstances. You must BELIEVE in yourself in order to accomplish your goals.

Whatever goals you set, it takes COURAGE to act and overcome the obstacles that might prevent your success. Never give up.

Leadership is about self-development, a daily and life long journey to becoming your best self, a person others respect and are willing to follow.

Identify 2 personal goals you want to accomplish this summer. Then develop a plan and take the steps to accomplish those goals.

I Will LEAD Not Follow

Exert Your POWER of Influence

Leadership is about the ability to influence others.

If you don’t have influence, you will never be able to lead others. True leadership cannot be awarded, appointed or assigned. It comes only from influence. –John C. Maxwell

Everyone influences someone. You cannot withhold the influence you will have on others, regardless of whether you intend to influence them or not, be that positively or negatively.

The POWER of 10

Are you using your power of influence to be a FORCE for good? It’s your behavior that wins you respect. A leader must model the behavior he or she wants others to follow. You can do it.

Challenge yourself to be a positive influence to others.

BE THE ONE: Lead not follow Believe not doubt Create not destroy Defy the odds Be a force for good BE A LEADER!

I Will BELIEVE Not Doubt

Stay True to Your PURPOSE STAND UP for what you believe in even if it means standing alone. In life you can make your own decisions or let other people make those decisions for you. Being “Above the Influence” is about staying true to yourself and not letting people pressure you into being less than you are. –Unknown

When your values are clear to you,

making decisions becomes easier. –Roy Disney

A leader lives in accord with their personal beliefs and values. Inner peace provides the strength for becoming your best self, the person that others will respect and be willing to follow. Challenge yourself to FIND YOUR VOICE, FOLLOW YOUR PATH!

I am not bound to win, but I am BOUND TO BE TRUE. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong. –Abraham Lincoln

I Will CREATE Not Destroy

Pursue Your PASSION I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do. --Helen Keller You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world… --President Woodrow Wilson

Pursue your passion to lead by finding a cause you believe in, a problem to solve, a wrong to right, a friend to help!

Simple Steps to Pursuing Your Passion True happiness comes when you "do" what you're most passionate about. You have gifts to give to the world. So, what's holding you back? Break though your fear, overcome your obstacles, and start pursuing your passion today: --Life Coach Cheryl Richardson

Choose One Idea to Pursue Brainstorm With Others Find Encouragement Take the Leap

The future belongs…to those who can blend passion, reason and courage in a personal commitment to [their] ideals.”--Robert F. Kennedy

I Will DEFY the Odds

Taking a Personal INVENTORY

The students at Harvard and Stanford Business Schools use the following SWOT activity to gain access to self-knowledge.

SWOT is an acronym for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.

1. Start by listing all your Strengths including your accomplishments.

2. Next write down all your Weaknesses and what needs to be improved. Make sure to include any doubts, anxieties, fears, and worries that you may have. These are the demons and dragons guarding the door to your inner attic. By bringing them to conscious awareness you can begin to slay them.

3. Then proceed by listing all the Opportunities you see available to you for using your strengths.

4. Finally, write down all the Threats or obstacles that are currently blocking you or that you think you will encounter along the way to achieving your dreams.

You have to BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, that's the secret!

“If I've got correct goals and if I keep pursuing them the best way I know how, everything else will fall into line. If I do the right thing right, I am going to SUCCEED. --Dan Dierdorf
