December 2019 Dear Parents/Carers, As we reach the end of the autumn term and the end of the calendar year, it’s an ideal opportunity to reflect on a busy 4 months and the many and varied successes of our pupils in that time. I shared our recent Ofsted report at the start of November which acknowledged that “Since the previous inspection, leaders have improved the school in many ways”; we are especially proud of what it says about our fabulous pupils. Inspectors spent a lot of time talking to pupils both in lessons and around school and were very impressed with their openness and eloquence. Some of the key comments from pupils were: “Pupils enjoy coming to school. They say that teachers listen to them. Pupils told us that they feel safe.” “Pupils work hard. They say that teachers help them to complete work to a high standard.” “Teachers have high expectations of pupils’ behaviour. Pupils respect staff and each other. Pupils feel valued in the school. They say that it is ‘OK to be different’ and value the differences between people in the school. Pupils say that bullying rarely happens but is always dealt with well by staff.” “Pupils know that it is important not to be away from school. We saw several pupils proudly wearing their 100% attendance badges.” “Pupils trust their teachers and say that there is always someone to talk to if they need help.” “Pupils have a positive approach to their learning.” “Pupils are taught how to keep themselves safe. They are aware of the risks of social media.” “Pupils take part in a wide range of clubs and activities.” We are never complacent and we know that there are always things that we can do better; thank you so much to all the pupils and families whose positive contributions make our school a great place to learn. School remains as busy as ever and this letter contains information about some of the many events and experiences that our learners have undertaken over the last couple of months. We continue to receive glowing feedback from external providers about the fantastic behaviour and attitudes of our pupils and how well they represent our school. The last week of term is due to be a hectic one and some details are given below: Monday 16 th December Year 9 ice skating trip. Wednesday 18 th December Year 8 ice skating trip. Thursday 19 th December Year 7 ice skating trip. Friday 20 th December Optional non-uniform day for a 50p donation to Children in Need. School will finish at 12pm on this day. Monday 6 th January School reopens for the spring term at the normal time. If you are intending to replace/update any of your child’s uniform over the holidays, please ensure that it meets with our school uniform guidelines which can be found in pupils’ planners or on our website. Finally, season’s greetings to all our pupils and families. On behalf of all of the staff at Hyde, we hope you have a lovely holiday and a very happy new year. Yours sincerely, Andrea Radcliffe Headteacher

December 2019

Dear Parents/Carers,

As we reach the end of the autumn term and the end of the calendar year, it’s an ideal opportunity to reflect on a busy 4 months and the many and varied successes of our pupils in that time. Some of the key comments from pupils were:

“Pupils enjoy coming to school. They say that teachers listen to them. Pupils told us that they feel safe.”

“Pupils work hard. They say that teachers help them to complete work to a high standard.”

“Teachers have high expectations of pupils’ behaviour. Pupils respect staff and each other. Pupils feel valued in the school. They say that it is ‘OK to be different’ and value the differences between people in the school. Pupils say that

bullying rarely happens but is always dealt with well by staff.”

“Pupils know that it is important not to be away from school. We saw several pupils proudly wearing their 100% attendance badges.”

“Pupils trust their teachers and say that there is always someone to talk to if they need help.”

“Pupils have a positive approach to their learning.”

“Pupils are taught how to keep themselves safe. They are aware of the risks of social media.”

“Pupils take part in a wide range of clubs and activities.”

We are never complacent and we know that there are always things that we can do better; thank you so much to all the pupils and families whose positive contributions make our school a great place to learn.

School remains as busy as ever and this letter contains information about some of the many events and experiences that our learners have undertaken over the last couple of months. We continue to receive glowing feedback from external providers about the fantastic behaviour and attitudes of our pupils and how well they represent our school. The last week of term is due to be a hectic one and some details are given below:

Monday 16th December Year 9 ice skating trip.

Wednesday 18th December Year 8 ice skating trip.

Thursday 19th December Year 7 ice skating trip.

Friday 20th December Optional non-uniform day for a 50p donation to Children in Need.

School will finish at 12pm on this day.

Monday 6th January School reopens for the spring term at the normal time.

If you are intending to replace/update any of your child’s uniform over the holidays, please ensure that it meets with

our school uniform guidelines which can be found in pupils’ planners or on our website.

Finally, season’s greetings to all our pupils and families. On behalf of all of the staff at Hyde, we hope you have a lovely holiday and a very happy new year.

Yours sincerely, Andrea Radcliffe

Children in Need Staff v Student Football Match

This term the Student Leadership has been busy supporting Children in Need. Our Head Boy Ben D and Mr Power

arranged a football match with year 11 vs Staff. This year students won 4-3! Well done year 11!

Anti-Bullying Week

Senior student Vik O (y11) led the anti-bullying week with

‘Odd Sock Day’ and assemblies. Some staff had been willing

to share their own experiences of being bullied at school

and these powerful stories were shared with pupils. Vik's

message to all our students is to speak out if you are being

bullied - you will be supported. Congratulations to Vik on an

amazing campaign. Huge thanks to staff who shared their

stories and to Max P, Charlie S, Kaitlyn C, Imogen P and

Leonie S for speaking with such confidence all week.

Remembrance Day

Students Leaders were out and about school selling

Poppies for Remembrance Day. Well done girls!

Willow Wood Hospice

The Student Leadership team arranged for all forms to

vote on what should be the school charity this year.

Our students voted for Willow Wood Hospice. To

support this charity there is a Wishing Tree in the

school throughout December. Christmas Stars can be

bought for 50p. Students, staff and visitors can write

their wishes on the stars and hang them on the tree.

Please get involved to support this great charity.

Cake Sale

A cake sale was also organised with

staff and students alike bringing in

yummy treats that were sold at

break time.

Together the cake sale and the

charity football match

Raised over £300!

Thank you to all our Children in

Need heroes who helped organise

or supported these events.

AMAZING!

PIE: Pursuing Individual Excellence

@SharpFuture’s celebration event.

MOVEMBER

A huge well done to staff who raised £1,680 for Movember, the leading charity changing the face of men’s health.
