The University of North Texas-Dallas (UNT) is constructing its third major building on campus: the Student Learning & Success Center. With state-of-the-art technologies, the center is designed to enhance and further the academic and personal growth of students. They will have access to testing facilities, tutoring, distance learning and videoconferencing. The center will encompass a wide range of student services in one, centralized location including student services, enrollment, financial aid, career services, advising, and a greater capacity to hold university and community events.
Design Review Serving as a space for faculty development, public outreach gatherings, and student support services, it is imperative that the building provides students and staff with efficient and sustainable system, as well as comfortable and inviting environment.
As part of BranchPattern’s commissioning
services, multiple design reviews were conducted to help the design/construction team optimize building performance and occupant satisfaction, comfort, performance and general wellbeing. Reviews were conducted of the OPR and BOD documents, energy models, SD/DD/CD drawings and specifications, and LEED documentation. Reviews focused on MEP systems, the building envelope, and occupant needs. We participated in multiple design and LEED focused meetings. And we worked closely with the Owner and design/construction team members to optimize energy/water savings, ease of operability, and occupant satisfaction while minimizing construction costs. The final design surpassed the original energy goals that were targeted as part of the LEED Certification pursuit. It was also important to provide the owner with building systems they felt would be easy to operate and would minimize their building operation costs beyond just the utility costs.
