Student OrganizationsEconomics Club: The Economics Club is a student-run organization that meets regularly to organize seminars as well as social gatherings outside the classroom.
Women in Economics: Our new student organization aims at addressing the underrepresentation of women in economics and promotes the field among women.
Omicron Delta Epsilon: Omicron Delta Epsilon is Economics Honor Society. The Department of Economics houses the ETA chapter of international society that recognizes the academic achievements in economics.
FED Challenge Team: The FED Challenge Team is a student team that competes with teams from other universities in a mock Federal Open Market Committee meeting every Fall semester. For more information, please visit emich.edu/economics/get_involved

NEW STEM PROGRAM
Why Quantitative Economics?
The Department of Economics at EMU is pleased announce a new STEM-designated program: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Quantitative Economics. The program emphasizes quantitative skills and provides students with a solid understanding of economics, econometrics, and computational methods. The program is also beneficial for students who plan to attend graduate degree programs in economics, finance, and other related fields.
STEM Approved Program
The BS degree in Quantitative Economics is a U.S. Department of Education’s STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) designated program. Students in this program are eligible for STEM-specific scholarship and internship opportunities.
International students studying in the U.S. on an F-1 student visa who obtain a degree from a STEM-designated program can remain in the country longer post-graduation.
The Program DetailsBS in Quantitative Economics program requires students to complete 34 credit hours and a minor. The required courses are Calculus I, Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, Business Statistics, Intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, and Introduction to Econometrics.
Students are also required to complete four elective economics courses at the 300-level or above. At a minimum, two of these courses must be from the following: Time Series Analysis, Economic Fluctuations and Forecasting, Cost-Benefit Analysis.

While studying economics you will develop the analytical and critical thinking skills that are necessary for any career path. You will be able to think clearly about complex issues and to communicate your ideas effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. The quantitative skills learned as well as the statistical software packages, R, SAS, and Stata, are widely used by government and businesses.
