STUDENT TRAINING / INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Objective

To impart cutting edge automotive tech knowledge to students and helping them acquire skill sets and competencies that would give them an edge in the current job market.

Why Learn Calibration or Modelling

We live in a world where technology is changing by the minute and not being on top of new technology can mean life or death.

So while the entire automotive industry has moved from Carburettors to Fuel Injection and subsequently to Model based calibration methods, our educational curriculum is stuck with the initial days of fuel injection system.

Automotive technology has grown by leaps and bounds and it wouldn’t be untrue if we claimed that less than 50% of the car is today a mechanical system. Every other system is a electro-mechanical system being controlled by a state of the art computer.

So whether you are an engineer or a designer or a mechanic, unless you understand how the modern day automotive system works, you will not be able to survive in a competitive field. And this is exactly what our courses offer.

We teach you the basics in a way you can understand and then proceed on to explain the more technical aspects in a fun, project oriented way.

Why Choose Us • Technical Competency

We are a calibration company at heart. Engine calibrations are what we do. Our training programs are a reflection of that. We have over 10 years experience calibrating race cars, race bikes, developing ECUs for OEM applications, engine modelling experience on various two wheelers and four wheelers.

• Continuous Learning Centre We understand that Time is a very precious commodity. So our programs are not time bound. Which means, you can choose any course of your liking and pursue it anytime you want. We are open 7 days a week, from 9.00 AM till 9.00 PM. You don’t have to wait for a batch to start learning.

• Teaching Methodology We don’t follow a class room based method and very rarely use a slide show. Our entire content is modelled as a discussion with lots of case studies. So the entire time you are with us is one long two-way discussion where you learn by actively participating. Not by taking notes from a slide show.

• Project Based Learning For the software trainings, the discussions are replaced with projects. Every project takes you a little bit higher on the learning curve. By the time the projects are completed, you would have acquired mastery in the software as well as the concepts being taught.

• Internship Letter As our trainings require that you do projects as well, we offer internship certificates for the time spent with us as well.

Course Venues Most of the basic courses are conducted in the following cities

• Chennai - Sirius Motorsports Office, Porur • Coimbatore • Cochin • Trivandrum

If you want any of the basic courses ( and select advanced courses ) to be conducted at your location ( college or town ), and if you have a minimum of 20 participants willing to attend the course, then please contact our sales team. We will ensure we conduct a training at your premises at the earliest possible.

How to Choose a Course? Refer to the career map in the next page and decide which stream you want to specialise in. Once you have completed the basic courses, you can choose any one of the streams and specialise in it. Most of our specialisation courses are offered only in Chennai right now. 4.0 Calibration Engineer Gone are the days of engineers building engines and ECUs and testing the systems on a bench or dyno. These days the entire automobile is designed on some modelling platform. The concept is created on a 1D modelling system. The control strategy and working is tested at a model level without any components actually being even designed.

Say a model of an engine can be created in half a day. This engine model can be interfaced with a ECU model and simulations can be run. Tests can be devised and the performance of both the engine and ECU can be evaluated.

If the system passes all necessary tests and requirements at the model stage, then its sent for actual design. This process of building a entire control system and testing it without actually physically designing them is called Model Based Calibration. Model Based Calibration uses Matlab / Simulink and Ricardo Wave concurrently to help you run a variety of tests.

You can let the system automatically calibrate your ECU model so that it satisfies certain emissions parameters or performance figures. Alternately you can run tests and re-iterate them by changing engine parameters in Ricardo Wave each time. What it means in practical terms is that a single engineer can now conceptualise an entire engine and power train combo, develop a control system for it, test it and validate it as well.

5.0 Vehicle Dynamics / Race Engineer

This is a dual purpose course. When taken as a stand alone course it offers you the skill sets required to be a vehicle dynamics specialist. When taken along-with the other courses, it’ll help you acquire skill sets needed to work as a race engineer.

This course is offered along with “The Alchemy Performance” run by Karthik & Prashanth Tharanisingh. Two of India’s most successful drivers. Karthik is a two time MRF Formula 1600 champion and the current VW Ameo Cup driver trainer. Prashanth is the Polo cup champion and has international race experiences under his belt.

The course combines theoretical vehicle dynamics along with practical showcase on a Driving Simulator. So participants learn about a concept, the immediately see it working on a driving simulator. This way combination of different parameters like camber, castor, toe settings, damper settings and tire pressures can be manipulated to change vehicle behaviour.

The other part of the course covers track driving and data analytics. You will learn how to data log various sensors in the car and analyse them and arrive at meaningful conclusions that can help you take decisions on vehicle setup.

Who Can Take This Course • Engineering students / graduates from Mech, Automobile and Production Departments

• Aspiring race car driver / student formula drivers

• Student formula chassis team leads

Pre-Requisite • NIL if looking at vehicle dynamics alone. We would suggest you to undertake the foundation course to

get a better understanding of the system as a whole. But not mandatory.

• Follow career path map if looking at a race engineer.
