Come and find out what’s happening on your

cultural doorstep during the Student

Weekender

This year’s Student Weekender highlights art, music, science and

culture on Manchester’s student corridor through events,

exhibitions, talks and performances, launching with our

headlining event on Thursday 12, that encompasses all of these,

Student Social Art Party at the Whitworth!

The Oxford Road corridor is home to some of Manchester’s most

iconic and forward-thinking cultural destinations. Manchester has

artistic, architectural, academic, musical, scientific, theatrical

and creative breadth, including the Whitworth,

Manchester Museum, Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM),

University of Manchester, Central Library, Contact,

Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), Holden Gallery,

Cornerhouse and soon to be opened, HOME.

2015 is an exciting year for Manchester. In February, the Whitworth

reopened after a £15 million development and has been

transformed into a 21st century gallery in the park. In the same

month, FutureEverything, the award-winning innovation lab for

digital culture and annual festival celebrated their 20th

anniversary and hosted an ambitious programme of music and

film commissions, premieres and performances at RNCM.

Wonder Women, a feminist festival launches this month with a

programme of events across the city to celebrate International

Women’s Day 2015. RNCM officially opens its £7m concert hall

this month. While Cornerhouse closes in April, HOME, the new

multi-arts centre opens in May with an opening weekend of art,

music, performance and celebration.

Manchester International Festival, returns in July for three weeks of

new commissions from some of the world’s best-known and most

experimental artists.
