Students versus staff basketball game By Tyler Ray

On the evening of Thursday, February 16, teachers

and students at South Livingston Elementary School turned

basketball players. But it was the group of students who

proved to be the better players. The student versus staff

game was a good ballgame because the students won and it

was for a good cause.

It was a fundraiser to help pay

for the fifth- and sixth- grade

students to go to Washington,

DC. It was very fun to watch, some people might say.

During time-outs they auctioned off prizes. The t-shirts

that were thrown into the crowd were donated by C-plant

Federal Credit Union. The basketballs that were auc-

tioned off were signed by the high school teams. Two

pairs of tickets to the Badget Playhouse were auctioned off, one pair was given right

back to be auctioned off again and that winner also gave us an extra $50. Mrs. Penny

gave a lot of money, in honor of her dad, to help the fifth and sixth grade go to Wash-

ington, DC, to help them learn about government and our country’s history.

The D.A.R.E.

program By Gracie Grimm

Do you know what the

D.A.R.E. program is? The pro-

gram stands for Drug Abuse

Resistant Education. This pro-

gram is for the sixth grade.

In 1983 it was only an anti-

drug program, but now it is

about good decisions regarding

personal behavior, peer pres-

sure, bullying, and other topics.

The D.A.R.E. program gets the

funding from property taken

away during drug investiga-

tions. If a parent has any ques-

tions, please call the Livingston

County Sheriff’s Department or

visit them online.

Enrichment students create

blog as media outlet By Alexandra Martin

If you’re in Mrs.

Samantha’s enrichment

class, you know that we

have started a blog: the

fifth- and sixth- grade

enrichment blog.

A blog is a website

that provides personal

opinions. Some of the

subjects we have previously blogged about are school

news, celebrities, book reviews, and movie reviews. We

are starting a blog because Mrs. Samantha wants us

to focus on having good grammar and punctuation. If

you would like to view it, it’s at http://

SLES Cheerleaders perform routine at game

By Kylee Meeks and Te’lor Edmonds

On Thursday, February 16

South Livingston Elemen-

tary School’s gym did not

only see teachers and stu-

dents getting down for a

friendly game of basket-

ball, but they were also

graced by a performance

of the SLES cheerleading

squad. The girls per-

formed a routine, including a dance, cheer and sideline at the

student-teacher game. They danced to the song “Firework” by

Katy Perry, getting people excited about the game. They did

very well and worked very hard. “The girls’ excitement and

supportive parents makes a BIG difference in how they cheer,”

Kinsee Henson, coach of the squad, explained. The squad is

led by head coach

Laken Durard and

assistant coach

Kinsee Henson.

The coaches said,

“We couldn’t do

it without the sup-

port of parents

and the school

administrators.”
