How to write a letter to the Bishop and other important staff!

Why does he want a letter from me? We are blessed with a very loving and caring Bishop who initiated

this letter writing practice so that he might get to know a little something about you. He reads each and every letter and prayerfully considers these when preparing his homily. In this way our Bishop is able to speak directly to you, Confirmation Candidates of All Saints, rather than just preparing a homily befitting to any group. He has a desire to know a little bit about you.

What does he want to know? The purpose of the letter is for you to formally request the

Sacrament of Confirmation. Your parents can not do this for you. We can not do this for you either. You must request this for yourself. Our Bishop is interested in knowing why you feel you are ready to receive this sacrament

What does he want me to write? This is a letter that is to be from your heart. Not the words of anyone else. Share a little bit about yourself and this journey. Because I know it is hard to know where to begin, here are some points to consider and questions to ask yourself:

Why did I start this process?

What did I hope to find or learn—about myself, about my faith?

Where am I now? Where has this journey brought me?

How have I chosen to live out my responsibilities for Confirmation preparation?

Have I done a good job fulfilling what has been asked of me?

What did the experience of community service bring to me?

How has a retreat influenced me?

if I have not been to a retreat yet, what do I hope to experience?

What can I do better in the weeks to come?

Who has influenced me along the way? Family, friends, others along the way

Why did I choose my sponsor?

Why did I choose my Confirmation name? What did I learn about my chosen Saint that drew me to

that name choice? Was my Confirmation name chosen out of love and respect for Someone I know? Someone who influenced me?

What do I intend to do with this gift of faith initiated so long ago on my behalf on the day of my Baptism which I now will claim for myself in the Sacrament of Confirmation?

What do I truly believe this gift of Confirmation holds for me?

What do I still long to know?

I recognize the impact on me has only just begun. Here's where I hope the journey will take me....
