PREFACE
The present paper is a brief summery of my taxonomic studies
on Ascomycetes and Deuteromycetes on Diapensiales and Erioales
in Fennoscandia, previously published in the following papers:

INTRODUCTION
During the 1960*s and 1970*s a series of mycological studies on
ecological groups of fungi have been performed at the Institute of
Systematic Botany, University of Uppsala (Sweden). The freshwater
Hyphomycetes were treated by Nilsson (196M-), the Pyrenomycetes on
Gramineae in Fennoscandia by 0. Eriksson (1967), the family Sorda-
riaceae, most species of which are coprophilous, by Lundquist
(1972) and the Ascomycetes and Deuteromycetes on Cyperaoeae by B.
Andersson (unpub1.) and on Juniperus communis by K. Holm (unpubl.).
The present study is devoted to the Ascomycetes and Deuteromycetes
on members of Diapensiales and Ericales in Fennoscandia, a subject
proposed by Prof. J.A. Nannfeldt, Uppsala. It was started in 1963
and carried out first at the Institute of Systematic Botany in
Uppsala and continued from 1967 at the Section of Ecology at the
University of Umeå.
In Fennoscandia Ericales is represented by 28 species in 16 gene
ra and Diapensiales by a single species, Diapensia lapponica.
The fungus flora is rich on some species, poorer on others. It is
natural that more samples have been studied of the more common host
species, but on the whole my ambition has been to find as many fungi
on as many host species as possible. The following host genera are
represented: Andromeda (1 species), Arctostaphylos (2), Calluna (1),
Chamaedaphne (1), Chimaphila (1), Diapensia (1), Empetrim (1),
Erica (2), Ledum (1), Loiseleuria (1), Monotropa (1), Phyllodoce
(1), Ryrola (3), Ramischia (1), Rhododendron (1) and Vaccinium (5).
Cassiope 9 with 2 species in Fennoscandia, is excluded as it is
studied for the present by Dr. L. Holm, Uppsala.

This study is based mainly on material collected by myself.
Excursions to Norway were performed in 1963 (Rogaland, Hordaland,
Buskerud) and 1965 (Opdal, Sör-Tröndelag, Nord-Tröndelag, Nord
land). Most of the material from Sweden was collected in Uppland,
Dalarna, Västerbotten and Lule Lappmark but excursions have also
been made in other provinces: Skåne, Småland, Öland, Gotland, Sö
dermanland, Värmland, Västmanland, Âsele Lappmark and Lycksele
Lappmark. From Finland only herbarium material has been studied,
a.o. lots of indetermined samples collected by Heikinheimo (H) and
Kari (TUR). Determined and indetermined collections of fungi from
Finland, Norway and Sweden have been borrowed from the following
herbaria: C, H, 0, S, TROMS, TUR, UME, UPS and Statens Växtskydds-
anstalt (Stockholm, Sweden).
Papers 1-3 deal with 52 species of Discomycetes, 44 of Pyrenomy-
cetes and 31 of Deuteromycetes. For 13 of the latter their perfect
states are known, and they are treated in connection with these.
All species are listed here on pp. 8-17. Four genera and 14 species
are new to science. Nineteen new combinations and one new name have
been proposed.

Discomycetes, Pyrenomycetes and Deutermycetes were found on a
total of 24 Fennoscandian species of Diapensiales and Evicates.
In the following list the host species and the fungi on each host
are enumerated in alphabetical order. References are given to the
pages where the fungus species are treated in detail.
