Precedent AnalysisThe Gehry Residence - Frank Gehry

Analyzing the Gehry Residence as a precedent allowed a more comprehensive understanding of deconstructivism, public-private separation, light, circulation and materiality.

The fusion of traditional and contemporary elements as well as the distorted views created by the curiously shaped windows were significant areas of interest and exploration.

Platform ProjectConcept Explorations

This project aimed at creating a viewing platform in response to a weather element or condition while incoporating some element of our precedent analysis.

Initial concept explorations attempted to integrate the site in response to precipitation.

As the design progressed, a focus became to capturing and containment of water. This also utilized the refraction properties of water to offer unique, introverted views from the platform.

Explorations were then conducted to examine the relationship between water, view and light, as well as the potential of glass columns to capture the elements.

PERSIPITATION was the final result. Named after the strong influence of that both perspective and precipitation had on the project.

Programme DevelopmentSocial & Conceptual Explorations

Programme studies began to guide the house design of the next assignment. They were developed in response to some social climate. The initial programme I proposed was based around student housing, versitility and affordability.

This further manifested into a Japanese style approach, emphasizing integration with nature. This was largely to conceived to be pursued through the use of sliding doors and various types of partitions to create versatile spaces,

The ability to live in harmony with nature while effectively harvesting it became an influential concept of the programme. The idea manifested architecturally in elevation, mimicking the rigid, simple geomtetry of a planter, where life develops vertically.
