MODULE THREE - Art & Design students only Managing Knowledge Modern organisations recognise knowledge as a resource that must be managed, like finance or human resources. The module provides students with an academic framework for understanding knowledge in the context of organisations, business and society. Special emphasis is placed on the development of the knowledge management capability using information technology (IT). The focus of this module is the management of knowledge in the era of modern commercial organisations, with particular attention to the role played by computers and networks. Students will gain a modern business-level understanding of the systems and network “architectures” involved in knowledge management. This naturally includes the internet, the web and social networking. The ethical and professional issues raised by knowledge management are not forgotten. ASSESSMENT TOPIC: REPORT

MODULE THREE - Business students only Sustainable Tourism Management The Sustainable Tourism Management module provides an academic framework to examine and discuss managerial issues in the dynamic field of sustainable tourism development. The module starts by contextualising sustainable tourism development within the broader agenda of sustainable development, with references to national and international policies and to increasing societal concerns for environmental issues. Within that context, definitions of sustainable tourism development are compared and contrasted, and indicators of sustainability are explained and illustrated. Students learn how to measure the sustainability of tourism development projects. Students analyse how tourism development projects impact upon all stakeholders, from local communities to service providers, and from policy-makers to tourists themselves. Ethical factors are also taken into consideration, as they increasingly affect decision-making in the field of sustainable tourism development. Sustainable tourism development is ultimately examined as a relatively recent alternative to other forms of tourism, whose impacts are less aligned with principles of sustainable development. Typical forms of sustainable tourism are explained and illustrated, such as eco-tourism and agri-tourism, with a focus on both business opportunities and managerial challenges. ASSESSMENT TOPIC: CASE STUDY ANALYSIS

What areas will you study? Here is a detailed overview of the module content you’ll be studying during the 29-week programme.

MODULE TWO Marketing Intelligence This module enables students to research techniques used to contribute to the development of marketing plans. In particular, buyer behaviour and the influence of branding upon purchase decisions are explored. Both B2B and B2C markets will be appraised and assessed in order to identify profitable segments for an organisation to pursue. The role of market intelligence in understanding purchase decisions is at the core of this module, with particular focus on a range of market research techniques (both quantitative and qualitative); competitor analysis; information on customer satisfaction (and how to deal with dissatisfied customers); and the management of customer relationships and loyalty programmes. ASSESSMENT TOPIC: MARKETING RESEARCH & NARRATED POWERPOINT

MODULE ONE Enterprise & Entrepreneurship The purpose of this module is to provide students with the tools and techniques to demonstrate entrepreneurial skills, processes, and knowledge required to make use of opportunities and support mechanisms available for individuals to put their commercial ideas into reality. The module examines the nature of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs. Similarly, it questions the nature of enterprise and if enterprise and entrepreneurship are the same thing. Students are required to explore the role of innovation as a part of the entrepreneurial process and to identify those characteristics that might be found in successful business entrepreneurs in different countries. The module covers the main practical aspects of business start-up and early survival and growth. The role of entrepreneurial drive within the growing and larger organisation is considered. Sustainability in relation to the economy, environment and social aspects within society are dealt with practically and sensitively. Concepts of social entrepreneurship are also considered. ASSESSMENT TOPIC: BUSINESS PLAN & PITCH

10 11

MODULE FOUR Managing Self & Others This module is designed to nurture and facilitate the development of those skills associated with personal progression and work relationships, and helps students gain an appreciation of the underlying theory linked to the module content; in particular, to take a more advanced look at the field of CPD and managing self. Students will complete a detailed appraisal of themselves and their team using career development models. A career management strategy will be developed and supported by a reflective blog which will include a detailed personal development plan and other career development tools. The assessment will require demonstration of academic underpinning and a strong reflective theme. ASSESSMENT TOPIC: CAREER DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY

About our Tower Hill Study Centre

Arden University’s Tower Hill study centre can be found overlooking several iconic landmarks, including the historic Tower of London, Tower Bridge, and the Shard - London’s tallest and most famous skyscraper. It’s hard to imagine a more inspiring place to study! Located in the spacious and distinctively-shaped Sceptre Court, our classrooms are bright and airy, providing the perfect place to interact with your tutors and friends and concentrate on the work you need to get done. The study centre contains a state-of-the-art IT suite where you can access your online account in your free time and make the most of your days. You’ll also find spacious common room areas with floor-to-ceiling windows where you can relax and admire the view, meet with friends, or catch up on your studies. There’s a student kitchen where you can warm your food or make some tea or coffee. There are several great places to grab a quick and affordable bite to eat for those who fancy venturing out during their lunch break these include KFC, Subway and a few others. Our team have made adjustments to accommodate social distancing in classrooms and common spaces and has put measures in place to be Covid safe. These include anti-bacterial gel outside each classroom and equipment to wipe down your desks prior to starting your session.

Transportation links Our Tower Hill study centre is well-served by London’s transport links, and there are several routes in to and out of the general area. The Circle and District Underground lines call at Tower Hill station, which is just a few minutes from the study centre on foot. These services provide quick links to central and west London. Aldgate is also a short walk away, making it easy to catch the Metropolitan line up to Harrow, Watford, Amersham, or Uxbridge. Tower Gateway can be found just across the road from the study centre, which offers easy access to the south east, such as Lewisham and Stratford. The nearest National Rail station is Fenchurch Street, linking the area to Barking and Basildon, and reaching as far as Shoeburyness. The number 15 bus provides a direct route into Trafalgar Square, making it easy to reach central London should you want to explore the many sights on offer there.

The surrounding area The Tower Hill study centre can be found in London’s East End, situated on the border of the renowned City of London, a historic financial district which is home to the Bank of England and the Stock Exchange. The area is rich in history; the Tower of London lies just across the road from our study centre, as does the world-famous Tower Bridge. Interestingly, the old Royal Mint where currency was manufactured up until 1967 stands next to the study centre location of Sceptre Court. If you want to take a break from your studies and head out for lunch, there are lots of places within walking distance from study centre. Head to St Katharine Docks for a sit-down meal with a city vibe, or make your way towards Aldgate to find typical British pub grub, or generous helpings of pasta from classic, family-run cafés.
