Time Management

That exercise was about prioritising:

when we say we haven’t enough time to do something we often mean that we don’t see it as a priority.

Do you currently view your revision as being a high enough priority?

Or are you being too strict on yourself?

Time Management

Good time managers assert their priorities:

e.g. you’re asked to the cinema but had planned on revising-

“Not today because I need to work. How about at the weekend?”

Don’t have revision as your only priority:

at times you’ll need to assert that you’ve done enough revision.

You also need to rest, play sport or relax with friends.

Time Management

Good time managers organise their time.

To do this successfully, create a revision timetable.

Some initial questions:

What dates are your exams on?

If they haven’t been published yet….

….use last year’s dates as a rough guide.

Time Management

NOW DO THE SUMS !!!!

Hours per weekday x number of weekdays left

Hours per Saturday x number of Saturdays left

Hours per Sunday x number of Sundays left

Add up the three totals = number of hours left for revision

Make sure you haven’t counted the days you can’t revise

Divide this by the number of weeks left = hours revision per week

2 x 90 = 180

3 x 20 = 60

3 x 20 = 60

300 ÷ 20 = 15

NOW ALLOCATE HOURS PER SUBJECT !!!!

You don’t have to give the same amount of time to each subject

You might spend more time on the subjects you find hardest

You don’t have to give the same amount of time to each topic

You might spend more time on the hardest or largest units

• You can even give a copy to your parents to show you ARE thinking about your revision!

Time Management

Remember:

• Timetables reduce stress levels by putting you in control of your revision.

• They should reduce the problem of late night revision the day before the exam.

Time Management

• Stay calm if you get behind schedule.

• By having planned to complete your revision by the date of your first exam, you can use the time between exam days to catch up.
