PROJECT MANAGEMENT/CIVIL ENGINEERING Bachelor of Engineering

“Effectively leading, setting goals, achieving results and making a contribution to the whole”

broad yet specificMaintaining a clear overview while streamlining, coordinating and controlling individual processes – this is the project manager’s task. Clear and comprehensive instruction on methods and techniques for planning, controlling and monitoring progress along with practical project work prepare students for the complex challenges that lie ahead of them in their professional lives – following an approach that is both fundamental and practical.

comprehensive and interdisciplinaryBiberach University of Applied Sciences takes an interdisciplinary approach to teaching project management tools and methods for civil engineering. Budgets – deadlines – quality, these three pillars of project controlling are also essential in a number of other areas. The career perspectives are just as multifaceted: Thanks to their broad knowledge of management, Project Management graduates are in high demand in traditional areas of activity for construction companies, project controlling or planning offices or in other fields such as banking, public authorities, etc.

individual and team-orientedStudents play an active role in designing their own personal syllabus during the course of their studies – selecting compulsory courses and their choice of advanced study in structural engineering or infrastructure engineering. Students work on course content together as part of a team. Professors and lecturers are there to offer students personal guidance every step of the way. Guidance counseling is provided as career counseling.

practical and scientificThe degree program offers practical study courses that build on foundation coursework in civil engineering with in-depth scientific study in close collaboration with interdisciplinary institutes at Biberach University of Applied Sciences, which offer laboratories and testing centers to reinforce course material. Degree program lecturers come straight from business and research to help bridge the gap between theory in practice, and students analyze and work on real projects in teams to gain practical experience.

consistent and project-orientedThe next stage of learning follows with the Master of Engineering offered in consecutive study. The project-based degree program focusing on mastering complex tasks is at the forefront here – in cooperation with public authorities, construction companies or planning offices.

Semesters Curriculum content

1 – 2 Scientific foundation in mathematics, physics, chemistry, technical mechanics, law, hydromechanics, basic project management skills

3 – 4 Geotechnology, transportation, sanitary engineering, accounting, costing

5 Practical semester (internship – 95 attendance days)

6 – 7 Advanced lectures (structural engineering or infrastructure engineering), project work, project scheduling and cost planning, Bachelor’s Thesis

regional and internationalThe Project Management/Civil Engineering degree program maintains a tightly knit network with construction companies in the region and beyond as well as planning and project controlling offices. Moreover, the academic department cultivates contacts, cooperation partnerships and exchange programs with partner colleges and universities in a number of different countries – including Austria, Georgia, Sweden, Canada, Argentina, India and Vietnam. The degree program makes it easy for students to transfer anywhere in Europe, while overseas experience is encouraged – both during the course of studies and later on in students’ careers. Major field trips and excursions take students across the globe to destinations such as China, Brazil and Portugal. Students organize and carry out these activities themselves – demonstrating complex project management at its best.
