INTRO PAGECut out of a forest of stately pines and majestic hardwoods on a peninsula that reaches out into a cypress, Stumpy Lake is one of the finest golf courses to be found in southeastern Virginia. Designed by Robert Trent Jones and hidden from view by natural woods, Stumpy Lake, an 18-hole golf course, offers well cared for Bermuda fairways and beautifully manicured bentgrass greens. Natural water hazards and strategically placed bunkers intersect the fairways to tantalize your play. Wildlife from the surrounding woods often add to your round of golf.

But Stumpy Lake is more than just a beautiful golf course; it is a short drive from anywhere in Tidewater. The clubhouse Pro Shop abounds in true Southern hospitality. Enter the beautiful clubhouse (completely renovated in 2009) and relax amid the tall tales of fellow duffers; refresh yourself at the sparkling clean lunch counter; or meander through the adjoining Pro Shop. If you’re a golfer, Stumpy Lake Golf Course is for you.

As you cross the natural bridge leaving Stumpy Lake, surrounded by elegant cypress filled waters, you will know you have visited more than just another golf course. You will remember Stumpy Lake.

Stumpy Lake Golf Course offers a truly unique golf experience! The course stretches through the natural wonders of a 1400 acre nature preserve and is completely absent of any signs of commercialization or residential development. Sightings of deer, fox, eagles, and ospreys are common, and from time to time, it is even possible to enjoy a bear sighting. Stumpy Lake now features a new clubhouse, a canoe and kayak launch, a nature trail, and a fishing pier on the east end of the lake. With its location just moments from I-64, the course enjoys strong participation from golfers across the region, and it is close enough to its sister club, Honey Bee, to accommodate golfers interested in playing 36 holes in one day.
