Avoid
• Installationswherethesensorwouldbelocatedinalinewhereasmallerlineprecedesit. • Installationswheresensorwouldbepositionedfollowingavalveorelbow.Neverinstallflowportvalveadapteron dischargesideofvalve.
• Installationswheresensorwoulddirectlyprecedebypasseductor. Note:Intightinstallationswherewaterflowisturbulent,customcalibrationisrequiredformaximumaccuracy.

1. Akron Valve Adapter
a. Simply remove retainer nut or plug. b. GreaseO-RingsonsensorwithO-Ringlubeorsiliconegrease.(Removeplasticpaddlewheelprotector.) c. insert sensor into port and push in. d. Alignpin"A"(Figure1)withlocatorholeandpushin. e. replace the retainer nut or plug and tighten with a wrench.

a. Determine the location on the pipe. b. Drilla1-1/4"holeinthepipewithaholesaw.Horizontalpipingontopsidefrom9:00-3:00. c. Deburrtheedgeoftheholeandcleantheareawherethegasketseals. d. Centersaddlewithholeinpipe(Sensorlocatorhole"A"(Figure3)maybeoneithersideofpipehole.)

D. PRESSURE TRANSDUCER INSTALLATION
ThePressureTransducer(Figure4)hasa1/4"NPTmalethread.
1. apply pipe sealant to the thread and insert into provided tapped hole in valve discharge adapter on discharge sideofvalve.
2. Tightenwithwrenchtotorqueusedforsmallpipefittings.

E. METER INSTALLATION
CAUTION:Alwaysdisconnectallwiringandcablesfromthemeterbeforeelectricarcweldingatanypointon apparatus. Failure to do so will result in damage to meter.
1. Selectmountinglocation(s)formeter(s).Themeteristobemountedfromtheoutsideofthepanelandwill needclearancebehindof3-15/16"widthby2-1/2"depth.
SeeFigure5forcutoutandscrewmountingdimensions.
WARNING:Themeterisasealedunitandthebezelshouldnotbedisassembledfromthecase.
2. Afterthecutoutandmountingholesarefinished,mountthemeterusingtheprovidedfasteners.
3. it is now time to connect the red power wire and, the Black ground wire, to the truck system.
CAUTION:Exercisecautionwhenworkingwiththeelectricalsystem.Disconnectcablefrombatterypositive terminalbeforeconnectingpowertometer.Seetruckmanualforadditionalinformationon electrical system.
CAUTION:Donotconnectmetertoflowsensorortransducercablesuntilpowerhookupisverifiedcorrect anddisplayisworking.Themeterhasreversepolarityprotection,butthetransducerandflow sensordonot,sincetheyrequireshielding.Theywillbegroundedtothepiping.Anymis-wiring could damage all components.
note: Itisessentialthattheconnectorsusedbewater-tighttopreventwaterfromwickingupwiresandinto the meter. always use sealed connectors or splices and the adhesive lined shrink tube provided, or other suitable connectors.
4. Using16or18AWGwire,connecttheRedpositivewiretothe12or24VDCpowersupply.ConnecttheBlack negative wire to a suitable ground.

AkronFlow/PressureMeters,equippedwiththekPaorLPMselectionfeature,allowstheusertoselectthedisplayfunctiontoappearonpower-up.Tomakethisselection,usethefollowingprocedure.
Step 1- PressandholdBOTHbuttonssimultaneouslyforapproximately15seconds,untilthedisplayflashes“CAL” (calibration).Releasebuttons.Afterafewseconds“SIZE”willappearonthedisplayandallmodelightswill be lluminated.

Systemwillthenalwaysreturntoyourselectionatpower-up.Tochangemodes,repeatSteps1-5.
SECTION IICALIBRATION INSTRUCTIONS
GENERAL-WhenunitisinCalibrationmode,allmodelightsonleftsideofdisplaywillbeilluminated.Aflashingmodelight indicateswhatfunctionisbeingcalibrated.
A. PRESSURE CALIBRATION
1. prior to calibration, the pressure transducer (Figure 4) must be installed into provided 1/4"NPTpressureport. typically in a valve discharge adapter or piping.
2. open the valve and drain to eliminate any pressure in line. 3. power up the meter. (Figure 5) 4. Afterthedisplayhasgonethroughasequenceofmessages,0 will appear on the display, or an error message mayappearifinthepressuremode.Also,amodelightwillappearontheleftsideofthedisplay.
The unit is now ready for Pressure Calibration
Step 1- PressandholdBOTHbuttonssimultaneouslyforapproximately15seconds,untilthedisplayflashesCAL (calibration).Releasebuttons.AfterafewsecondsSIZEwillappearondisplayandallmodelightswill be illuminated.
Step 2- PressandreleasetheLEFT button. PRES(pressure)willappearonthedisplay.
Step 3- PressandreleaseRIGHT button. the word “ZERO”shouldappearandPSImodelightwillflash.Note:If “ZERO” does not appear, the messages dEAd, EPrL, or EPrH may appear on the display. they indicate possibletransmissionerrorsbetweenthepressuretransducerandthemeter.(Seetroubleshooting guide-SectionIVtoresolve)
Step 4-With“ZERO”appearingondisplay,pressandreleaseright(pressure)button.ZEROwillstartflashing. Afteramoment,0 will appear on display.
note: on digital display, the word “ZERO”isdisplayedas“2Ero”.
Unitisnowreadytoprovidepressurereadingsforoperations.Thisprocedureneednotberepeatedunlessthetransducerormeter is replaced.
B. FLOW CALIBRATION - PIPE SIZE
Typicallyaneworrefurbishedapparatuswillbepre-calibratedusingpipesizemode.Thiscanalsobedonewithanyfieldconversion installing the akron Flow/pressure Systems.
Note:AkronFlow/Pressureunitscanbeinstalledintoexistingflowmeterinstallationsifasaddleclampinstallationexists.(TheAkronsaddleclampwilladapttoholesupto1-3/4"diameter.)Thepanelmeterwillalsofitinplaceofmostflowmeterorpressuregagecutouts.Moststandardpressuregagecutoutscanalsobeusedoreasilymodified.
Step 1- Powerupunit.Noflowisrequiredthroughsystem.
Step 2- Pressandholdbothbuttonssimultaneouslyfor15secondsuntilthedisplayflashesCAL(calibration) releasebuttons.AfterafewsecondsSIZE will appear on the display.
Step 3- Pressandreleaserightbutton,ifunithadpreviouslybeenprogrammedwithapipesize,thatsizewill appear.(SeeNote)
Step 4-Pressandreleaseleftbuttonuntildesiredpipesizeappears.
Step 5-Withcorrectpipesizedisplayed,pressandreleaserightbutton,thepipesizewillflash,then0 will appear ondisplay.Unitisnowcalibratedforpipesize.
note:Ifunitwasnotcalibratedwithpipesize,CUS (custom)willappear.Pressandreleaseleftbutton. FRE(frequency)willappear.Proceedwithsteps4&5.

Step 6-Theaccuracyoftheinstallationshouldbechecked,duetopossiblevariationsassociatedwithindividual installations.UseofanAkronStyle9015orFK-25orequiliventWaterFlowTestDeviceisrecommended asthebasisforcomparison.Ifrecalibrationisnecessaryusethecustomflowsettingcoveredinthe nextsection.
C. FLOW CALIBRATION - CUSTOM FLOW SETTINGS (HIGH/LOW)
Formaximumaccuracyofeachflowline,(especiallywithelbowsinline)itmaybedesirabletoseteachdischargelinetoagivenhighflow/lowflowrangeratherthanusingpipesizemode,thiscanbedoneutilizingawaterflowtestkit.(AULclassifiedWaterFlowTestDeviceisrecommended.)Useincludedflowchartprovided.(TABLEI)

Toexplainthisprocedure,a2-1/2”linewitha230LPMlowflowand2280LPMhighflowwillbeused.Seenote followingthisprocedureforotherlinesizesandflows.
Step 1-Powerupunit.
Step 2-Pressandholdbothbuttonssimultaneouslyforapproximately15seconds,untilthedisplayflashesCAL (calibration).Releasebuttons.AfterafewsecondsSIZE will appear on the display.
Step 3- PressandreleaseleftbuttonuntilFLO(flow)appearsonthedisplay.
Step 4-Pressandreleaserightbutton.HIFL(highflow)willappearonthedisplay.
Step 5- Startuppumpandcommencedischargethroughselecteddischargelinewithwaterflowtestkit connectedaccordingtoinstructionsprovidedforitsuse.
Step 6-Bringflowupto2280LPMandmaintainasteadyflow.UsethePressure/FlowConversionSheetprovided withthewaterflowtestkit,orthesheetprovidedinthisprocedure.(TableI)
Step 7- Pressandreleaserightbutton.Themeterwillbegintocountpulsesupto1000.Itwillthenstopand HEND(highend)willappearondisplay.Ifsteadyflowisnotmaintainedduringpulsecounting,press andreleaseleftbutton.HIFL will appear on the display. press and release right button to recollect1000pulses.)
Step 8-Afterensuringthatasteadyreadinghasbeenmaintainedthroughthecountsequence,pressandrelease right button to accept pulse data. 0000 willappearonthedisplay,withfarleft0flashing.
Step 9-Sincethedisplaywillshowfourcharactersandthehighflowis2280,presstheleftbuttonuntil2appears.
Step 10-Pressandreleaserightbutton.Thesecond0fromleftwillbeginflashing.
Step 11-Pressandreleasetheleftbuttonuntil2appears.
Step 12-Pressandreleaserightbutton.Thethird0fromleftwillbeginflashing.Displayshouldread2200. press theleftbuttonuntil8appears.
Step 13-Pressandreleaserightbutton.Theright0willbeginflashing.Thedisplayshouldread2880.
Step 14-Pressandreleaserightbutton.2880willflash.
Ifotherthan2880isdesired,usetheleftbuttontochangenumbersandrightbuttontochangefields,as steps9-13explain.

Step 15-Ifvalueiscorrect,pressandreleaserightbutton. LOFL(lowflow)willnowappearonthedisplay.Using thePressure/FlowConversionSheetprovidedwiththewaterflowtestkit,holdflowat230LPM and maintain steadyflow.
Step 16-Pressandreleaserightbutton.Themeterwillbegintocountpulsesto1000.Note:TheLowflowpulse collectionwilltakelongerthanhighflowduetolowervelocity.
Step 17-When1000pulseshavebeenreached,thecountingwillstop.LEND(lowend)willappearondisplay.
Step 18-Pressandreleaserightbutton.0000willappearonthedisplay.Proceedasyoudidinsteps9-13,display should show 0230afterstep12using0230insteadof2280.
Step 19-Pressandreleaserightbutton.0230 willflash.
Step 20-Pressandreleaserightbutton.CAL(calibration)willflashmomentarily,indicatingthatthemeteris calibrated. Display will then show 0 with a mode indicator light.
Step 21 -VerifyFlowMetercalibrationbycomparingflowstoaWaterFlowTestDevice.
Unitisnowreadyforuse
NOTE: Thehighflowsettingsshouldbe7-10timesthelowflowsettings.
SECTION IIIOPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
A. GENERAL
Theseinstructionsdescribefeaturesandoperationalstepsforgeneralserviceafterthesystemissetupandcalibrated.(SeeinstallationandcalibrationsectionsI&IIifthishasnotbeendone.)
Themeterconsistsofthedisplayscreenandtwooperationbuttonslocateddirectlybeneaththedisplay.(SeeFigure6)
Whenunitispowered,therearethreeredLEDmodelightsontheleftsideofdisplay.Eachoftheselightsalignwithparticularfunctionmarkedonthebezelface.(SeeFigure6)Theywillonlybeilluminatedindividually,exceptduringpowerupsequenceand calibration.
Theunithasfouroperationfunctions:
1. Flow LPM-ActualLitersperminuteflowing.(Willreadinsingleliterincrementsto1200.Above1200,10liter incrementswillappear.)
2. Flow TOTAL-Totallitersflowedsinceunitwaspoweredup.(FiguredisplayedmustbemultipliedX100togettotal)
3. pressure bar or kPa.
4.LEDINTENSITY-Brightnessofdisplay.
B. OPERATION (SeeFigure6)
Atthetimeofpowerup,allthreemodelightswillappearwithfourZEROS.Insequenceanumbervaluewillappear,followedbyLI, bar or kPa, CUS or PIPE andfinally0.Thiswillbecompleteinafewseconds.
