By Charlotte HamiltonThe Dolly Act is all about revisiting the excitement of childhood, embracing innocent doll features and girly styling. The playful mix of colour and pattern generates an exciting take for a Spring look. Who said Spring has to be all about florals, take to the stripes for 2011 to liven up your look. Miss Selfridge’s doll campaign embraces the femininity and naivety of the traditional doll,

encompassing the bow detailing, structured silhouettes and contrasting and patterns as the basis of the look. The ‘Dolly Act’ introduces layering of different textures and experimentation with oversized accessories. Check out the editorial photoshoot for inspriation for your Spring Summer wardrobe.

inspiration, from Paris, Milan, Tokyo, New York and India, I love picking up things on my way to add to my vast wardrobe. House of Holland

Spring/Summer 2011

For Spring/Summer 2011, it’s the season of details, and pleats are one of the details you might want to consider if you are thinking about choosing a fashionable look for the warm seasons of the next year. From London Fash-ion Week, we saw an array of designers who played with pleats; adding movement and texture to dresses, tops and even sleeves. From light, floral summer dresses to heavy circle skirts fit for the working woman, pleats lend a natu-ral sense of class and sophistication to all who choose to embrace them. They also frame an outfit’s silhouette and by creating the illusion of symmetry. From the statement pleated backs at Hannah Marshall to the crinkled 70s pleats at Richard Nichol, everyone was at it. Some of the key piec-es which will run throughout the season are, the long and lovely pleated skirts, feminine dresses and beautiful pleated

sleeves in the style of House Of Holland. Short skirts are a classic choice when it comes to placing details such as pleats. Designer, Richard Nicoll, who has also decided to capitalize on the pleat trend explains to Style.com what his intentions were behind the folding folding fabric. “I used pleats to cre-ate architectural necklines and flattering volume,” he told Style.com. “They add a mathematical, modern-looking edge to longer lengths and ethereal fabrics.”Miss Selfridge will embrace the feminine pretty pleats for Spring/Summer, through a selection of sophisticated skirts, feminine dresses and beautiful blouses. An emphasis on this femininity will be reflected through a pastel colour palette and soft shades combined with subtle floral prints. These pieces will be available in store and online from April.

Spring/Summer 2011 embraces sheer fabric, introducing a trend that encompasses an array of looks. The sheer trend was displayed throughout the fashion week catwalks, introducing the trend through different representations. It was shown to be sporty from Alexander Wang, urban nomadic over at Richard Chai, sophisticated from Prabal Gurang and urban meets futuristic at Rag & Bone. The sheer fabrics consist of mainly light silks and chiffon fabrics. The transparency as their secret weapon to win the heart of the public who craves for show-stopping and glamorous design and outfits. In this case sheer equals femininity and sex-appeal. One of the key items for the Spring/Summer sheer trend is the sheer maxi skirt/ dress,

it was featured heavily throughout the catwalk for Spring/Summer 2011.Chloé sent their models down the runway in black and nude sheer tulle skirts, while Dolce and Gabbana took the trend a step further by creating a sheer white vintage-style dress. The sheer trend embraces pastel shades of rose pinks, soft peach, chalky blues and subtle greens to create a romantic feminine look. For a more robust take on the sheer trend, shades of black, grey and khaki are perfect for Spring/Summer. These shades work perfectly for the key items of the season, the sheer maxi dress and skirt. Miss Selfridge will embrace the femininity of the sheer trend with pastel blouses, sheer dresses and maxi-skirts, available in-store in May 2011.

Miss Selfridge are continuing to introduce key pieces of makeup into stores and online. This season our key focus is on false eyelashes. Since introducing them into stores in 2009 our range has increased dramatically, with the Girls Aloud lashes being our best selling. The sixties fashion movement is the inspiration for this look. Think smudgy green-stained eyes, lashings of black mascara, Nicola eyelashes, strong rosy cheeks and candy pink lips. A toned down style, perfect for the daytime, a twist on the current party look which is a bit more of a rock n roll take on the 60s look, where the girls have lived-in party eyes, and messy hair look. The Nicola eyelashes set the look off, with the natural brown colour of the lashes, the wispy fringed style and the Longer wispy bundles with an un-even edge, create a flirty fringe that verges on the dramatic adds length, creating a striking effect. The lashes are easy to apply

should just be worn for a night out, make your eyes stand out for a meeting at work, feel special for a day out shopping or create an eye catching lunch with the girls. The strong rosy cheeks accompany the lashes perfectly, this dolly shade blush emphasises the cheek bones and draws attention to the striking eyes. The 60s style eye shadow look incorporates smudgy green shades, and white tones to blend the colours, and lashings of black mascara to accompany. The green and white shadow frames the eye, along with the dark shading of the eyebrows. The candy pink lips complete the look with a high moisturising lipstick.
