The Styx Valley is remote with no mobile phone coverage. The weather is unpredictable and can rapidly change. Bring food, water, sunhat, raincoat and solid shoes. Ensure you have adequate fuel for your return journey.
Travel safely Although suitable for 2WD vehicles, the roads in the Styx Valley are gravel and can get slippery. Ensure you have a spare tyre and jack. Drive no faster than 50km/h and slower at night and at dusk to spare local wildlife. Beware potholes, corrugations and other hazards. In some circumstances, particularly after snow, some roads may be impassable due to fallen trees. If you encounter injured wildlife, call Bonorong Wildlife Rescue on 03 6268 1184.
