Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loveshas been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God,because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his oneand only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not thatwe loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for oursins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. Noone has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love ismade complete in us.This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of hisSpirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be theSavior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God livesin them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how loveis made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judg-ment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect lovedrives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is notmade perfect in love.We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brotheror sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom theyhave seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us thiscommand: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude.

It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful it does not rejoice

at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all

things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies,

they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass

away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes,

the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought

like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish

ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in

part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. So now faith,

hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
