Sub-Principal Double Bass Audition Booklet

Candidates are asked to prepare the following pieces:

- a first movement from a Classical concerto (e.g Van Hal, Dittersdorf, Sperger,Hofmeister)

o First round: Exposition ONLYo Second round: Full movement with cadenza

- a first movement from a contrasting period and style (e.g. Romantic; Bottesini,Koussevitsky) with cadenzas where applicable

Candidates are also asked to prepare the following orchestral excerpts:

• Bach, J.S.• Beethoven• Berlioz• Brahms• Britten• Mozart• Shostakovich• Strauss

Violin Concerto in E Symphony No. 5 Symphonie Fantastique Symphony No. 2 (2 excerpts) Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge Symphony No. 39 Symphony No. 5 Ein Heldenleben (3 excerpts)

Sight reading may also be given.

Orchestral tuning must be used: E A D G. Please note that auditions are unaccompanied.

Candidates must provide their own instrument.
