Upcoming Events
International Nurses Day- 12th
May 2015
Theme - Nurses :- A Force for Change: Care, Effective, Cost Effective
The cost of healthcare is rising worldwide, placing a heavy financial burden on
health systems and populations globally. Nurses, as the single largest profession in the health workforce, are well positioned to drive efficiency
and effectiveness improvements while providing quality care and attaining optimal patient and
population outcomes. . Nurses are concerned and understand the landscape
of healthcare delivery including financing, cost effectiveness and resource management, cost of
healthcare and access to care. It is therefore essential that nurses and policy makers focus on the nursing role in care effective and cost effective
healthcare systems as a key priority and determinant for achieving equity, delivering universal health
coverage and ultimately improving health outcomes globally.
The theme for International Nurses Day 2015,
Nurses: A Force for Change: Care, Effective, Cost
Effective reflects ICN’s commitment for systems
around the world. It leverages the contribution that
nurses can make and acknowledges that as a
profession we reach people that other practitioners
never see both in urban and in rural and remote
communities. In short, global health cannot be
achieved without nurses and without our proactive
contributions and participation at all levels of the
healthcare system.

Therapeutic Horseback Riding For Children With
Special Needs
Learning how to ride a horse challenges multiple
muscle groups, provides tactile and vestibular
sensory input and increases a person’s awareness of
social and environmental cues.
Therapeutic horseback riding involves
individualized riding instruction with specific
therapeutic goals, along with lessons in safety and
grooming to nurture the relationship between a
person and a horse. Because some therapeutic riding
centers are non-profit organizations, the cost is often
subsidized.
Hippotherapy is another type of equine therapy with
a specially trained horse and rehabilitation therapist.
The therapy sessions use the natural movements of
the horse as a treatment for physical therapy,
occupational therapy and speech therapy goals. A
physician’s prescription is usually required for
hippotherapy, and hippotherapists are licensed in
another field such as psychology, social work,
speech pathology, occupational therapy or physical
therapy.
