Subject-Verb Agreement• Singular nouns need singular verbs to balance them out

when they are in the active present form.

• While we add an ‘-s’ to plural nouns, we do the opposite with most verbs.

• Singular: Plural:

• The kid waits for the bus The kids wait for the bus

The kid sits on the ground The kids sit on the ground

The kid watches TV The kids watch TV

Subject-Verb Agreement

• Some verbs are irregular:

• S: Is/P: are – The teacher is cool vs. The teachers are cool.

• S: Has/ P: have – The teacher has books. Vs. The teachers have books

• S: was/ P: were – The teacher was talking vs. The teachers were talking

Things to consider: Obj. Summary

ex. “In the article “…..” the author discusses…”

- Look for general trends in supporting details.

- DON’T use personal pronouns like I, Me, We, Us.

- Revisit all of the grammar in all of your sentences.
