EROSION CONTROL NOTES
1. EROSION CONTROL MEASURES SHALL BE INSTALLED AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS AND SHALL CONFORM
TO ALL APPLICABLE SECTIONS OF THE "STORMWATER MANAGEMENT AND EROSION AND SEDIMENT
CONTROL HANDBOOK FOR URBAN AND DEVELOPING AREAS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE", AUGUST 1992 OR
"THE NEW HAMPSHIRE STORMWATER MANUAL", DECEMBER 2008.
2. SILT SACK AND SILT SOCK SHALL BE INSTALLED WHERE SHOWN PRIOR TO ANY ON SITE GRADING OR
DISTURBANCE OF EXISTING SURFACE MATERIAL. IT SHOULD BE MAINTAINED DURING AND AFTER
DEVELOPMENT TO REMOVE SEDIMENT FROM RUNOFF WATER AND FROM LAND UNDERGOING
DEVELOPMENT UNTIL ALL SLOPES HAVE BEEN ADEQUATELY STABILIZED. WHERE POSSIBLE NATURAL
DRAINAGE WAYS SHOULD BE UTILIZED AND LEFT OPEN TO REMOVE EXCESS SURFACE WATER.
3. DURING CONSTRUCTION, ALL DRAINAGE INLETS SHALL BE PROTECTED BY INSTALLING A GEOTEXTILE
BARRIER OR STONE CHECK DAM AROUND THE PERIMETER OF THE GRATE.
4. ALL DISTURBED AREAS AND SIDE SLOPES WHICH ARE FINISH GRADED WITH NO FURTHER
CONSTRUCTION TO TAKE PLACE SHALL BE LOAMED AND SEEDED. A MINIMUM OF 4" OF LOAM SHALL BE
INSTALLED. A SEED, LIME AND FERTILIZER PROGRAM SHALL CONFORM TO ALL APPLICABLE SECTIONS
OF THE "STORMWATER MANAGEMENT AND EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL HANDBOOK FOR URBAN
AND DEVELOPING AREAS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE."
5. FILL MATERIAL SHALL BE FREE FROM STUMPS, WOOD, ROOTS, ETC.
6. THE BOTTOM OF SEDIMENT BASINS SHALL BE PERIODICALLY CLEANED, WITH THE SEDIMENT REMOVED
TO A SECURE LOCATION SO AS TO PREVENT SILTATION OF THE NATURAL WATER WAYS.
7. EARTH STOCKPILES ARE TO BE SEEDED AND MULCHED AND HAVE A SILT FENCE INSTALLED ON THE
DOWNSLOPE SIDE AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS.
8. ANY DISTURBED AREAS WHICH ARE TO BE LEFT IDLE FOR MORE THAN 30 DAYS, AND WHICH WILL BE
REGRADED LATER DURING CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE MACHINE HAY MULCHED AND SEEDED WITH RYE
GRASS TO PREVENT EROSION. HAY OR STRAW MULCH SHALL BE APPLIED TO ALL FRESHLY SEEDED
AREAS AT A RATE OF 2 TONS PER ACRE. BALES SHALL BE UNSPOILED, AIR-DRIED, AND FREE FROM
WEED, SEEDS AND ANY COARSE MATERIAL.
9. EROSION CONTROL MEASURES SHALL BE PERIODICALLY INSPECTED DURING THE LIFE OF THE
PROJECT AND AFTER EACH STORM. ALL DAMAGED SILT FENCES SHALL BE REPAIRED. SEDIMENT
DEPOSITS SHALL BE PERIODICALLY BE REMOVED.
10. EROSION CONTROL MEASURES SHALL BE REMOVED WHEN THE DISTURBED AREA IS STABILIZED.
DISTURBED AREA RESULTING FROM THE SILT FENCE REMOVAL OPERATION SHALL BE PERMANENTLY
SEEDED. ALL ACCUMULATED SEDIMENT SHOULD BE REMOVED AND PROPERLY DISPOSED OF.
11. ALL PROPOSED POST-DEVELOPMENT VEGETATED AREAS WHICH DO NOT EXHIBIT A MINIMUM OF 85%
VEGETATIVE GROWTH BY OCTOBER 15TH, OR WHICH ARE DISTURBED AFTER OCTOBER 15TH, SHALL BE
STABILIZED BY SEEDING AND INSTALLING EROSION CONTROL BLANKETS ON SLOPES GREATER THAN
3:1, AND SEEDING AND PLACING 3 TO 4 TONS OF MULCH PER ACRE, SECURED WITH ANCHORED

12. ALL DITCHES OR SWALES WHICH DO NOT EXHIBIT A MINIMUM OF 85% VEGETATIVE GROWTH BY
OCTOBER 15TH, OR WHICH ARE DISTURBED AFTER OCTOBER 15TH, SHALL BE STABILIZED WITH STONE
OR EROSION CONTROL BLANKETS APPROPRIATE FOR THE DESIGN FLOW CONDITIONS.
13. AFTER NOVEMBER 15TH, INCOMPLETE ROAD OR PARKING SURFACES SHALL BE PROTECTED WITH A

SILT SACK CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE:
1. TO INSTALL SILTSACK® IN THE CATCH BASIN, REMOVE THE GRATE AND PLACE THE
SACK IN THE OPENING. HOLD OUT APPROXIMATELY SIX INCHES OF THE SACK OUTSIDE
THE FRAME. THIS IS THE AREA OF THE LIFTING STRAPS. REPLACE THE GRATE TO
HOLD THE SACK IN PLACE.
2. WHEN THE RESTRAINT CORD IS NO LONGER VISIBLE, SILTSACK® IS FULL AND SHALL BE
EMPTIED.
3. TO REMOVE SILTSACK®, TAKE TWO PIECES OF 1” DIAMETER REBAR AND PLACE
THROUGH THE LIFTING LOOPS ON EACH SIDE OF THE SACK TO FACILITATE THE LIFTING
