%e begin the process by choosing an appropriate design for the sub. (esign

selection was not an easy task so it took a lot of time. )ur ob$ective was to design a

simplest mechanical structure that has greater mechanical stability at all possible

conditions. *t took one day to design the

whole thing. All of our team memberscontribute in the design process.

The length of the submarine is + inches and

diameter is -.+ inches. Now that is very big

for a model but we want to ensure the

maimum space available for the batteries,

motors, ballast tank and other electronic

equipment. %e are using a pressurized air

ballast tank because it is suitable for a model

    and easy to fabricate.

     %e are using pro/ e wildfire +. for 0/(

modeling of the submarine. *t is very easy to use and the design features it offers

    are very compatible for our

design. *t is also used for 1/(

    drawing of the sub.

    "alculations

    &ome of the calculations we

    have done are presented here.

2olume of the mid section 344-4.++in0

2olume of the aft back part! 344.-1in0

Total volume of the sub 34051.67in0

2olume of the main ballast tank 3406.8+in0

"enter of gra&ity of t!e submarine:

The center of gravity of the submarine lies at a point 9 1+.64, .47+!.%e simply

use statics to find the center of gravity of the submarine.

    Fabrication of t!e

SubmarineThe selection of material of the submarine

was quite difficult. At first we had no idea of

selection of the material. Then we took some

advice from our teachers and decided to use

fiber glass mat to construct the submarine

because of its strength under pressure. *t can

bear huge amount of tensile and compressionstresses.%e bought it from a shop and the

owner helped us as to how to use the fiber glass. %e came to know

that a substance called 9.:." is used to harden the

    fiber glass.

irst we made a mould of the whole submarine via

thermo pole. The mould was then cut in half and

covered with vinyl sheet. A coat of wa was then

applied on the two piece mould. *t helped us by providing a sealing through which the mould

could not stick to the fiber. After applying the

fiber and the 9.:.", we waited for it to dry. *t

completely solidifies in one day. Then we applied a rubber sealing between the tow

pieces of body and $oined it via nuts and bolts.

    Future Modications In T!e

    Submarine

4! %e can use a camera in the bow for navigational purposes. *t can also be

used for searching and de/activating the magnetic mines.

1! %e can also use ultrasonic sensors to avoid obstacles and can make it semi/

    autonomous.

0! %e can also install small torpedos in the submarine.

     A%%lications:

    4! *n military.1! *n searching of marine life.

0! As a practical course work for marine engineering.
