Submitting Your Photos to 500px Prime  As you’ve probably heard, 500px has launched a commercial licensing marketplace:  500px Prime offers a simple full­featured license that is competitive in the industry while providing one of the highest royalty rates ­ 70% ­ to our photographers.  Let’s get started: Uploading If your file is already on 500px, you can skip this step and move ahead to Enabling Your Photo for Sale. Upload your photo using our Upload Manager by clicking on the Upload button on the right side of the top navigation bar:  

  Next, click on the blue Upload to Profile button to start uploading your photos!  

 

At 500px, you have lots of options on how to import your content. You can Choose Photos through your Finder or Explorer or use services such as Dropbox to upload your cloud­based content.  You can also choose multiple files to upload at once.  This uploader lets you upload the version that will be displayed on 500px.  

 

      

Now that your photo(s) have been uploaded, it’s time to enter in some information to make them discoverable. The Title is very important not only to describe your photo, but to help Search Engines like Google find your photo outside of 500px. Try to use short descriptive sentences instead of high­level conceptual ideas (e.g. “Man reading newspaper in cafe” instead of “Hmm”).  When it comes to the tags, check out Heather’s article on effective keywording.   Once you’re done just click Finish Upload.  Enabling Your Photo for Sale: The Marketplace 

 At 500px, you have several options to monetize your creative work. For more information on your 500px Store visit the FAQ. To enable a photo for sale in the marketplace visit your Store Settings page.    

Once in the Store part of your settings,  you’ll see your newly uploaded file: 

  In the example above, the initial version uploaded does not meet the minimum requirements of 3000px on the longest edge.  To license or sell your photo it must be:  

● At least 3000px wide or tall ● Saved at the best quality JPEG setting ● Not contain any watermarks or digital borders 

 To upload your high resolution version, click on the “Choose File” button and submit your photo. Your photo entry should now look like this:  

  

The Print checkbox allows customers to buy your work as in printed form (canvas, framed, mounted, etc.)  through 500px Art. The Download options allows buyers to purchase a personal­use version of your high resolution file. This is not commercial licensing and doesn’t allow the buyer to use the image for commercial or advertising purposes.  Let’s get the paperwork out of the way: Submitting your photo  

 In order for 500px Prime to license your photo on your behalf, we need to get your authorization and make sure that all the required permissions have been submitted.  Click on the blue Submit for licensing button to access the Licensing form:  

  Section 1 asks you to review and agree to the Contributor Licensing Agreement. This is the agreement between you and 500px Prime acknowledging that you give us permission to license your content.      

Sections 2 and 3 are where you would upload your Model or Property releases.  There’s a helpful article on when and how to use model releases that you can check out here.  If you need to attach multiple releases (for a group of people), simply append the releases in a single JPG or create a multi­page PDF document with all the scanned copies of the releases.   Download links for: Model Release or Property Release.  Section 4 now asks you if this file should be considered for Editorial Use only. This is generally the case with photos that contain recognizable people or trademarks and where no releases have been obtained. The audience for this type of licensing is limited (as Commercial photos can also be used for Editorial purposes). Photos that are “Editorial Use Only” cannot be used for selling and marketing purposes and instead are mostly used to illustrate a truthful article that is about news, culture, sports, politics, entertainment or other topics of interest to the public.   Section 5 asks you if you’d like to license this photo Exclusively through 500px Prime. Choose this option if you have never licensed this photo commercially through any other agency and if you wish to continue to have 500px Prime as the sole licensor. This will allow the Sales team at 500px Prime to negotiate exclusive­use and other high­priced licenses since we know the publication and licensing history of the file.  Section 6 is where you can refine your keywords and tags for 500px Prime. If you’ve entered in all the right tags when uploading your photo to 500px, you will see them here. Take this time to double check to ensure they are accurate, relevant and cover all the main subjects in your photo.  Sections 7 and 8 are helpful for our search filters when buyers are looking for specific numbers of people or locations.  If you have any questions, be sure to check out our Prime FAQ here.  Click the Submit button once you’ve completed this form.   

 Submission Completed! Congratulations, you’ve now successfully submitted your photo to 500px Prime.  Your photo is is now searchable by 500px Prime customers and they can request to license the content immediately. If our editors haven’t vetted your submission form yet and a request comes in we will quickly verify all the information and process the order. In the meantime, our editors are working daily to clear thousands of submissions for immediate licensing.  

   Bonus Round! Creating Sets At 500px, a lot of our photographers pride themselves on having a highly curated portfolio of only their best work. Using Sets is a great way to keep only your best work on your Public Profile while keeping the rest of the photos from the shoot or series accessible.  On 500px Prime, sets are great for customers when they’re looking for that perfect shot and want to see similar images or want an entire series to help them build a story.  To create a set, visit your Upload Manager:  

  

Beside the “SETS” section click on the “New” button to create a new set.   

       Fill in the title and click Save and go back to All Photos to select the photo(s) you want to add to this set. Once selected, simply drag and drop them to your newly created sets on the left side menu.        

  Now, if you want to remove a file from your Public Profile, simply click on Public Profile and choose the file you wish to Remove. Click Remove and it is no longer visible in your Public Profile, but accessible via your sets and searchable on 500px Prime.
