• State Program

• Clean up National Guard Armories being closed by OMD

• Clean up Abandoned Hazardous Waste Sites

• OMD has built 7 large facilities across the state in order to combine troops.

• 60 old armories have or will be closed

• DEQ remediates environmental hazards before transfer to the new owner

ARMORY HISTORY: THE GREAT DEPRESSION

Mays Avenue Camp, OKC

5 Billion Dollars nationwide for public works during the Great Depression

Goal was to stimulate the economy and provide long-term benefit for the community

Workers would receive on-the-job training for further employment

This program employed 119,000 Oklahomans (mostly farmers) between 1935 and 1937

Paid eighteen cents an hour

REMEDIATION

• DEQ does assessment of site and samples for environmental hazards.

• Consultants are hired to sample and create inspection reports for:

– Lead-Based Paint

– Lead Contaminated Dust

– Asbestos

• Abatement of asbestos from building.

• Remediation of lead contaminated dust from floors of entire building (40 ug/SF).

• Removal and replacement of soil from outside Indoor Firing Range vent fan and/or drain pipe.

• Abatement of lead-based paint from surfaces in building.

– Removal and replacement of friction surfaces such as doors and windows.

• Removal and disposal of lead contaminated sand from bullet trap.

• Removal and disposal of lead contaminated debris.

• Remediation of lead contaminated dust from all surfaces of IFR (200 ug/SF).
